New Tanks Setup

Hello RC

Well here goes I just setup my 90 Gal FOWLR and 40 Gal Reef after a 6 yr vacation from SW tanks.. So im a little rusty and not with the newest of technology.... So bare with me many question in the near future im sure ...I did however upload the best quality pics possible with lil size allowed . Thanks to all that helped along the way, You know who you are ... And heres the specs so far ......

Reef
40 Gal Breeder Drilled ( 35 mins after i picked it up)
1 overflow 1In. 2 returns 3/4 In. with antisiphon valve (and it works!)
175w 20k Halide dual 65 w Pcs Led Moons
20 gal Refugium
Corlife S.Sk65 ......I know! Replacement is in the buget
2 Koralia #1s

FOWLR
90 Gal AGA
25 Gal cusom build W/D filter with custom Vent. Style skimmer

What made you choose 20k?

It was in the light when i bought it.....prob get a 14k well see..

How does it look in person? Is it too blue or does it look ok to you?
I have a 10k to start with for mine, hoping it won't be too white! :lol:

I think it looks pretty good but i am gonna try a 14k just to see that light is also a temp setup gonna builda 2 150w halides w t5 actnics in the near future just wanted to get it cycling for now ...

Remember, the newest technology is allot of times just old ideas rehashed a new way. My best advice is to keep it simple. A good sump, skimmer combo, a refugium, and religious water changes are your best allies for water quality. Couple that with good lighting and flow for what you intend to keep and you're golden.

Quick update...... all is well cycles starting to kick off nicely adding 50#s of figi on fri ..... thanks zepp and hermit for the kind words.

Holy frozen wonderland....50#s of live rock just what the doctor ordered ....cycle went nuts in less than 24 hrs.... at this rate ill be cycled in no time......Reef blasted past FO tank and its over a week older than reef... i forgot how exciting this is ..........Jeff anytime your ready we can hook that canopy up!!!! looks like we can fix that dark spot with a taller canopy?

Update.........Wow ammonia has spiked and is on the decline fast...no2 is spiked and showing mid level readings ....totally suprised it all happend so quick...skimmer broke in and is making nice muckand everything is looking good......cant wait to make it a little more to look at......patience grasshopper!
