New to anemones

I picked up my first anemone tonight. It's a multicolor BTA I guess. The foot is pinkinsh, the oral disc and base of tentacles are green and the rest of the tantacles are red.

Not the greatest shots.

I acclimated it and put it in the tank a few hours ago in a hole/crevice in one of the rocks hoping it would like it there cause it's foot was protcted and tentacles were out, also there was low/medium amount of flow there . Well it started to move after being in the tank for an hour. Moved down and went in the crack between two rocks and then disappeared completely behind and under the rock. My lights are out now for the day. I'm hoping it finds a new spot by morning.

If it's still under the rocks in the morning should I just let it go and hope that it comes back out from under the rocks? Or should I remove the top rocks and get it out where it can get some light.

That is a rose BTA (Entacmea quadricolor). It is likely to wander a bit until it finds a nice crevice or cave to attach. I would suggest you let it go where it wants for a few days. If it stays out of the light more than a few days, I would gently re-position it where it gets better light, otherwise it will bleach, which isn't the end of the world, but it's certainly not desirable. Do make sure your powerhead intakes are covered with screen or sponge, whatever will keep the anemone from getting sucked in. You say "marine newbie," please say this tank is completely cycled and has been up and running for a few months. Also, as a "newbie" research this species, the anemone faqs on this forum, at the top is a good start, and then go to wetwebmedia and type in Entacmea quadricolor for more information. Or just ask a bunch of questions in this forum. E. quadricolor is a good first anemone and you will be successful with it if you provide it with required conditions.

lol, ya I haven't changed my sig in a while. The tank has been up and running for about 6 months.

I have korilia powerheads how would I cover the intake? wrap the entire powerhead in mesh or something?

she is gonna go where it wants mine found its spot 3 years later there she sits they are great addition to any tank make sure you spot feed her once she finds a home and is happy

Well hopefully it has found it's spot. It came out of the rocks in the night and is staying put for now with just the tentacles sticking out of a crack in the rocks.
