I have just purchased 2 new corals for my 55g DT
I am only running a 3 bar t-5 fixture

I purchased a type of goniapora i beleive, the LFS just called it golfball coral

It is the size of a golfball when shrunken when fully opened it has pinkish white stalks with white centers and flurogreen tips - Any help on what type of coral and which forum it is best discussed in would be great.

My second purchase was a purple and pink morph with orange dots - to my knowledge this is a mushroom coral?

Any info on help with making my new 2 purchases happy and vibrant would be greatly appreciated.

Also i have placed the mushroom down the bottom of the tank in a low flow area, and the *goni* in the mid region of the tank in a medium flow area, would also like to know if either of these need spot feeding and what they can be spot fed with.

Also any other ways on making them spread grow etc

Thanks in advance Pixie

pics would help. Also a little bit more about your system as well.

For me at least mushrooms have always done best in a shaded area(i use MH) with low flow. Place them touching other rocks and they will spread to them. Ive never had a goni so cant offer much help there.

Gonioporia

Gonioporia

Gonioporia, typically do well for about six months and then decline. The arguement is that Gonioporia are specializes eaters and that we do not know what they need. Some have had success with them for longer than one year, but overall they usually die. They are also called flowerpot corals, I myself would not purchase one, they are pretty, but better left to an advance hobbyist.

yep i agree i had mine for 11 months it opened and closed everyday like clockwork, then it started staying closed, then it started to die ..water was same other corals was fine,,just died .i now have a brown golfball skeleton to remember it by Good luck.....

For Gonipora or Flowerpot Corals, feedings with Oyster Eggs, and ground up frozen Cyclopeeze paste (mash up a frozen piece with the flat side of a spoon against the side of a cup or bowl until it is really juicy and paste like) several times a week works wonders.

They just need very small meaty foods pretty frequently in order to do well long term. Coral Frenzy is a great food for them as well.
