Hi this is my first post!

I started a 10 gallon salt a few days ago, and was wondering if I could get some advice from other hobbyists out there.

I have 90 watts of power compacts on the tank right now, a fluval1 (soon to be replaced by a 110 GPH RIO bio/skimmer), and the salinity is set at 1.024 and temp at 79.

Once established, I plan on going inverts only. What sort of life could I sustain in a 10 gallon (mind you I want a small bioload, so maybe 1 or 2 shrimp and some zoas)? Is hard corals out of the question? I saw some sea fans that were tiny and looked nice. Anemones look great, but I hear they produce a lot of waste. Would zoas (the little flower looking things) be my only option?
 
3-4 shrimps with some snails and hermit crabs also yes because hard coral require MH or intense light in order to survive but zoas, mushrooms, xenia, and some types of LPS will survive under your lighting.
 
I'm getting some strange readings on my test kit.

It's only been 3 days since it's been setup, but the tests are showing;
0.5 PPM Nitrate
0.0 PPM Phosphate
0.0 PPM ammonia
I did the tests twice to make sure they were accurate...Will the nitrate and ammonia build up in time?
 
Any LR any Substrate , Any powerheads?
I would only get softies like zoos or muchrooms. Atleast start with them learning to get them to grow and how to frag them.
You want a balance of LR , LS ,CUC , water changes , equipment , ect.. Theres no one way to succed in this hobby.

My Honest Advice, Get at least a 55g or bigger to start, I much like you started on a Small tank,10g it lasted 3 weeks before i scraped it for a 20g long which has been up about 6 months and as soon as i have everything bought im scraping the 20 for the 55g i just got. Trust me go bigger now and save yourself the frustration that i had!
 
I live in an apartment, no place for anything larger than a 10 gallon.

There is 10 LBS of live sand, and 10 LBS of live rock.

Just today, i found some pink rubbery things growing off my rock. Looks like some kind of sponge or mushroom.
 
on your water reading your ph should be around 8.0-8.4ppm, nitrites 0ppm, nitrates 0-10ppm should be ok and ammonia should be 0ppm. Zoas should be fine under power compacts... most fish stores like the one i work at have a reef section with corals that are fine under minimum lighting also if you look up specific ones online they should say what kind of light you need... also with the anemones because they can move you have to watch out that they dont sting your corals and possibly kill them or eachother if you have more than one.
