I figued this might be the place to help get an ID on an SPS

I was at my my uncles and he was moving a rock in his tank and broke off a piece of the frag he had and gave it to me, and i don't remember what he called it. also does it look ok? im new to SPS and dont know much, i dont exactly see any polyps on it, ive seen a few contract when i used the turkey baster kncocking some sand off the rocks, but they look tiny anyways, so they may be there i just cant see them.

Thanks in advance

It looks like an montipora hirisuta "elkhorn".

For future reference, there is a separate SPS identification forum. Just scroll down on the SPS keepers forum.

Actually, it is not the place. These questions should be asked in the SPS Identification forum.

+1 on Elkhorn.
Your not going to get a lot of polyps on this one. Also this is a good indicator of whether you should keep SPS. If you can't keep this one alive, then don't add others. It is a fast grower- the fastest IMO and I have hundreds of SPS. So once it does get going I would add Montipora Digitata as a next step, and or M. Capricornis, and stay on top of this one or it will take over.
Welcome to SPS.... Good luck :)
