Anemones for life
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself,
My names Robbie, and i recently jumped into salt water tanks last june
i always was interested in them, since i was a little kid, my dad use to have a 220 gallon reef/salt water tank setup, about 10-12 years ago, but i was way to young to understand the concept and the beauty of a salt water tank, and due to a tornado crashing into our house the tank and everything in it died, my dad understandably hung everything up, and got rid of all his salt water stuff.
Over the years i would find myself always in the salt water section of pet stores, knowing id eventually break down and buy one. sure enough 12 years after the incident at the age of 21, my uncle gave me and my brother his 14g nano cube, with compact flourescents. immediatly hooked, 2 months later buying corals...and fish... until we ran out of space... so i went and got lucky and found a guy throwing out a 24g nano cube without the lights... SCORE! apparently his light fixture was broken and his kids moved out so he was throwing it away, so i couldnt resist, i picked it up, sure enough all the pumps and filtration in it worked... so i set it up, let thhe water run a couple days without lights... before i hit up good ole Bill at Reefledlights.com and bought my full LeD fixture from him for this tank...
skepticle about LeD tanks, when i saw his tanks, i was sold his tanks are gorgeous so thats what i wanted, brought em home, wired everything up, to be able to sun tan in my room.
let the tank acclamate itself a little bit, started throwing corals in there only to find my led's were wayyy to bright for the 24g at 6'' above the tank, so i then moved them 2 1/2 Feet above the tank only to find that was the perfect height and eveyrthing loved me much more for that, after a few bleached corals and what not, i finally found the perfect setup with the LeD's... for my tank.
Then a simple visit to petland in rockford with no intentions on buying anything, they have an amazing aquarium sale going on, i couldnt resist... 75 gallon tank with Overflow drilled wholes with stand and a 4 bulb t5 lighting setup for $500 ... went back a couple days later and bought the Aqueon proflex sump rated for 75g tank, and a Eshopps Protein skimmer rated for 150g tank... with this setup i was more then ready to take on bacteria
and i am now where i am ... with the 75g tank still going through its cycles... with a few fish in it.. a few Adult sized percula clown i picked up for free, 2 damsels, 2 eel gobys, and 1 smaller sized percula clown i picked up for cheap...
this is my story
