IMO, I wouldn't purchase a stand until I decided on the size/configuration of the tank I wanted. Also, you need to decide what type of lighting you are going to utilize/need, (based on FOWLR or Reef), for example if you were going to use metal halides instead of VHO, T-5's etc you would want a deeper canopy. Just my opinion.

I want to do a reef... but the cost of the lighting seems daunting Right now I have 2/ 24" Coralife fixtures with fresh 96w 50/50 bulbs

It hasnt been a good day for the tank... My diamond Gobe made a jump for it and bit the dust
