New to the island

Does anyone know where we can find the laws and regulations as to what can and cannot be collected in Okinawa? I am quite sure that all corals are off limits, but I was wondering if the fish have any rules? Any pointers in the right direction are appreciated.

Thanks

Patrick

As far as I know there are no rules on collecting fish or inverts; however, all Corals are illegal to take out of the water. Remember it is only wrong if you get caught :uzi: If you need any help getting things started feel free to give me a call 09019479875

i read not too long ago on my gov email that it is illegal to take anything from the beach, well just as magrath said don't caught!!!

I was also under the impression that fish and inverts were OK. I am asking because my neighbor reported Japanese officials inspecting people leaving Torii Stations and confescating cars and fining people who took stuff from the flats there....or at least that is what she thought was going on. I wanted to know if anyone here had any insight. It is not like I don't see about a dozen people at the flats each low tide collecting. Surely if it was that big a deal, there would be less people out there doing it. Thanks for the thoughts.

On another note.....where are all the places to get supplies on island? Or does everybody just order online? I know about PetBox. Just wondering if there are others. I have heard that there is a coral farm here that sells coral and fish. Anyone know about that or where it is? I would really like to see it.

Thanks again.

your best bet is to be slick about it. I will try to find the email about it. It said anything removed from the beach is illegal. Just be smart about it. Well I wouldn't buy any supplies from here, too overpriced or not worth buying. I order everything from online. I am starting to drift over to the zeovit supplements. Will let you know how that goes. There are two places to buy coral. One place is ACO which is 2 min from Kinser and PPM's is on 329 just by Kadena Gate 2. They sell all types of coral especially SPS. They are pricey for their frags. I have a couple. Just don't like paying for it, unless I could get what you could get in the states. Now ACO is a science lab, they have some awesome coral, but you have to work them to get some of their stuff. Not all of their coral is for sale. PPM you can get frozen cyclopeeze and phyto. Fish you got the fishlady just north of kadena gate 1 behind coco's before kadena circle. Also down by kokusai you have a fish store called aquaplanning. They have been getting a better selection. If anyone sees a powder brown tang let me know I am looking for more tangs. Patrick what kind of tank are you trying to run? I see you have a BA skimmer! Well I am waiting on my shipments to upgrade my lights to ice cap ballast and to t5's. Also on my new and improve supplements. If you need any help I would be glad to help. Right now I am looking for a 8 line wrasse. I have a pyrammmid snail issue. they won't stop coming so its time to get a wrasse to regulate them.

My beautiful reef listed in my info is being cared for by a friend that I trust until I return.

I have ordered a nice aquarium stand for here and have one of the 55 gallon from the PX. It seems so hard to find anything bigger. I would have liked to have a 75 gallon for the greater width to do some better aquascaping.....but those seem real hard to come by here. I will likely try to catch some stuff before the weather turns cooler. I already caught a bunch of stuff for a friend's tank and that was fun.

So taken from the beach......does that mean if you go out in a kayak, and come back with that you will be OK. Not sure how they would be able to tell. Especially since the account I heard, they were outside the gate and not really able to tell if it was beach collected or not. I will try to steer clear of anyone when collecting. I really just still like to know what is what.

Thanks again so much.

The place I heard about was likely the PPM place. I was tild to go out gate 2 of Kadena and go until you were forced to turn and take a left and the place would be on teh left, but it sounds like they have moved. Have to see if anyone knows where they went......

Actually there are regs for size of shellfish and such that can be collected. This pertains mostly to clams and snails I couldn't find anything pertaining to fish but as you said above... just avoid people.

If anyone is in the mood to hit the local stores and wouldn't mind a tag-along, please let me know. I don't know where anything is and I would like to see what is available here.

My cell is 08034264150.

I would love to get an idea of what all is here. I also have a friend who is getting into the hobby and will need some ideas too. I especially need to find good foods. That is a hard item to have shipped.

Appreciate any help you can give a newbee to the island.

I have a tank full of livestock and live rock that im looking to get rid of.. dont know why no one is trying to take me up on it. I need to get rid of my tank ASAP so im looking to just give away all the livestock and live rock. so why pay or steal stuff when I have it for free.. :)

My real concern is more stuff like food. All I seem to be able to find in the way of frozen food is brine shrimp. I like frozen mysis shrimp and frozen cyclopeeze. Anyone know where to get those?

I have a bunch of frozen mix that has cyclopeeze, nori, flake food, sea food, and bunch of other stuff in it. I would be happy to give it to anyone that takes my coral and LR..

Appreciate the offer. I don't have anything that would eat all that at the moment. I only have a pair of clowns.

I have a couple leathers, lots of mushrooms, recordias and anemones. 2 clowns and a marine betta.
