Actually, glad I asked the question. The little perc has a white dot on him, on his right side near the top.

Should I get him out of the tank immediately? He's been in overnight.

Strike that. Can't find the little guy. Big moma (well, not that big), is swimming up a storm all over. I may have to go in and tank apart the rock work, if the little one doesn't show up soon. He may have kicked over night.

Don't freak out yet ,slukach! it might not be ich.Could be a scratch from the move, some times the stress of catching them and moving them can cause more stress!
I believe a healthy fish can fight off ich . what are your parameters ?
I use "garlic extreme" by kent on any fish that i see with stress or the start of ich. It doesn't cure ich but it entices them to eat more and gives them more energy for healing! I swear by it!
keep an eye on him and let us know what the parameters are.

KF,
I saw the spot last night and wasn't too worried about it. It just weemed a little out of place (especially when I compared it to the big guy...he didn't have one).

So, I am going to call up the store today and try to have them exchange it for another one, hopefully without the little white spot this time.

Guys,

How often do I feed the xenia's? The guy at the fish store sold me these little frozen pyramid type things called "Formula A". It seems like a lot of food for 4-5 xenia's. Do I just drop it in and let it thaw out in the tank or do it outside and pour it in?

Also, they recommended Boyds Vita-Diet for the clown, but the big moma kind of grabs a little pellet, chews it and spits it back out.

What do you guys feed your clowns?

Mine does the same thing with the pellets, takes it in, spits it out an then takes it in again... i think some of them are just a little too big for them so it takes a couple tries to eat it.

As for the white spot, mine has a white spot by his tail... defnitly not ick, ick generally doesnt show up as just one spot... from doing freshwater tanks it would popup everynow and then.

To bad about the clown.

I don't feed the xenia's anything, they are like filter feeders and will get their food from the nutrients in the tank. Don't know what Formula A is.

I feed my clown frozen mysis. Put the cube in a little dish and put some tank water with it to thaw it and use the baster to add it to the tank (Not the entire cube, actually for one clown only add a little). He still might not eat much though.

slukach - sorry to hear about your clown...loses are always hard... :(

I agree with colin about how to feed the mysis, that is how I do mine...I actually do feed some mysis to my corals and they seem to love it...the button pollups immediately close in around the shrimp and 5 minutes later it is gone!! :D the xenia, I try to float some past them and they grab on to it...not much, but they do eat some...it is usually after dinner when I get to feed these guys due to my work schedule and the frogspawn is usually clamped for the night and doesn't eat any while I'm watching (some lays on top and it may eat it later.) Quick question, you guys feed 1 or 2 times a day?

Speaking of my xenia, and slukach this is something to watch closely with yours...they are growing like weeds!! I am being serious, they have been in my tank less than 2 weeks and they have doubled in size...I even have 2 new xenias that have appeared out of nowhere on the plug, so I now have 4 xenias growing where there were originally 2...I am going to have to frag the biggest really soon, because it is now about 4-5" tall when it stretches out through the day...and they are pulsing like mad...I see new sprouts all the time popping up and within a day or so they are 1/2" long!! Anyway, my point was they grow like mad when they have a ton of light...so watch them because if they are under decent to heavy light they will really explode and overtake your tank...

Another point with xenia to keep in mind...if you can get it to grow well and frag it often it can keep a steady supply of "store credit" in your name...at least around here and many other areas...xenia is a great beginner coral, so many people want them...therefore, lots of LFS want them...you can continually frag it and take it in to the LFS and they will give you store credit that you can then get lots of other corals for...I know some people in my area that have large enough tanks that they frag a bunch of stuff each month and take it in to the LFS we all deal with...this enables them to get a new coral at least once each month...and it keeps a very good diverse selection of coral frags to choose from for the rest of us... :D

Check out your LFS...see which ones have a good selection of frags and I'll bet you they have some sort of store credit program like around here... :)

guys, the mysis sounds like what I have except it is alittle more than shrimp. there is stuff like squid, krill, clam, etc, in the frozen triangle. is this stuff alright? calling the store right now, let you guys know what happens.

It should be ok for the most part...what your fish don't want the cleaner crew will get...just make sure to only feed them an amount they can handle/eat in 1-3 minutes...otherwise it ends up at the bottom of the aquarium uneaten and turns to ammonia as it decays...

Another point about feeding...do it with the pumps off, just remember to turn them back on... ;) This gives your tank inhabitants an opportunity to eat without having to compete with the flow in your tank...

Variety is the spice of life :)

talked to the store. they want me to bring in a water sample. if everything is cool, they will be happy to replace the fish.

This is the policy at almost every LFS I've ever read about or dealt with personally...they want to see if a) they sold you a sick/dying fish or if b) something in your tank killed the clown such as abnormally high ammonia, or some other out of wack water parameter...

Good luck...let's hope it was a) that happened and not b)... :D

Question, if I wanted to add a few more pounds of live sand, would that do any harm? After all the sifting going on with the snails looks like it could use a little extra. i started off I believe with 20 lbs of LS

so how nuch of the frozen triangle shoud I use (figure 2 clowns and the xenias)? and how would I frag the xenias? should I pull them off of one rock and put them on another? they appear pretty attached.

Greg- I started with a 30 lbs. bag of sand (regular agra alive sand from Dr. Foster & Smith). I started with about 20 lbs, after a few months I wanted a little more and added 5 lbs. I just put the sand in a cup and dumped it into the tank close to the bottom to limit any sandstorm.

Steve- How big are the triangles? I would think 1 cube would be enough, if it seems like it's to much though you can cut them in half.
