45 lbs. of rock.
I wish I took pics of individual rocks.

Ahhh, KF, your wallet is going the way of Greg.

Right on, though. Enjoy.

Here are some new pics after couple hours in the tank, almost all the polyps have opened and the clown is eating like a champ!

Just flake right so far. I will give him some mysis shrimp today.I don't have a skimmer.Tank looks so empty, but I have to try to be patient. At least I have something to look at now.

Alright. Just ordered 2 pieces from the guy at purecaptive. He is even going to hold onto them for a week or two, until the tank is fully ready and stabablized. I ordered 2 Zoa colonies. #'s 6 and 21 on the site. I wanted #5, but I got there a bit too late. But I am excited about the other 2 purchases for sure.

Good move slukach, holding off on putting the corals in your tank until the cycle is definitely over...this proves, even with "cured" live rock you will still have some die off during transport from there to your tank and you will still have a small cycle...can't way to see your pics...do you have a link to your thread?

Just for comparison sake, and rather than filling up this thread with more pics ( ;) ) I'll post a link to page 3 of my thread... :D

Yes Bryan at Pure Captive is awesome and has nice stuff. Glad you went with him, he's by far the best when it comes to online zoa's.

Guys,

I have a quick question. I have what looks like a little sand storm in my tank. I haven't done anything to the sand bed lately. I was just wondering what may be causing this. Any ideas?

I have been testing the water daily and the parameters have been fine. And I just got a hydrometer from Dr. F&S yetserday, and the salinity seems fine as well.

As always, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Could it be from the return pump?

When i set mine up I found that the pump moved the sand and made sand dunes and little sandstorms every once in a while.

Is your sandbed even or do you have dunes?

I actually changed around the nozzle direction on friday evening because a little dune was being created. I evened out the dune and now it doesn't even seem like the flow from the nozzle is hitting the sand...but maybe it is and I can't see it. How do you have your nozzle directed?

I have always drooled over Flame Angels and after getting rid of my mean Clarki Clown I had to get one.

Full tank shots will be up in the morning.

Very cool, colin.

Quick question: what type of lighting needs does the calustrea coral have? I was thinking about getting one from purecaptive, but I wanted to make sure I was able to keep it.

They don't require lots of light, I have 3 morphs in my cube and it's the same as yours. The main thing with them is you have to catch them when the lights are out and they have the feeding tentacles out and and feed them mysis with a turkey baster. They split and grow with the food they eat, not the light they get.

I have mine on the sandbed but you could put it on the rock, they like medium to low flow, don't blast them :)

Are all dwarf angels ok for cubes like ours? Or is it only the flame variety?

Also, about to do my first water change. I am getting the cleaner crew on Tuesday and plan on getting a clown or two (i figure if I get them together, there is less chance of one being aggressive). Should I start using the chemi-clean and purigen now, with this water change?

Sorry, I meant that I was going to get a clown or two down the road about a week, week and a half, not with the cleaner crew or right af.

All dwarf angles are "poosibly not reef safe". They can sometimes nip on LPS and eat softies. I'm taking a chance with this one.

Yeah, I'd go and start running the chemi-pure and the purigen, can't hurt.

Colin,

I just did the water change. The Chemi-clean was this white powder that I needed to scoop in to the back. Two little scoops (since it was 1 scoop per 10 gallons) is what I put in. But when I turned on the pump again, there was a massive sand-type storm. Is this the chemi-clean blowing through? Is this normal? I can't imagine having livestock in there and that type of stuff blowing around.

Also, found a few "bugs" in the water as I was doing the change. Kind of look like little torpedoes, yellowish, and like they have a see through shell that covers their whole body. Any idea what they are?

What's chemi-clean? I use chemi-pure and it's black.

Sounds like you got something that was supposed to be bagged in a media bag before being put in the tank.

I would get as much out as possible, get a media bag and then put it in the media bag and put it in the back chamber

Congrats...you have your first life form in the tank!! :D

This was most likely as amphipod...does it look sort of like a small shrimp, and when it moves it darts through the water with lightning speed?

Nice work...can we have a link to your build thread please... ;)
