HR,

They ARE some nice dusters.

Guys,

Well, it finally happened. For almost two months my clowns have stayed away from the gonipoa. Yesterday I realized they were swimming in its polyps and treating it like an anemone. This is not good and will only hasten its demise.

Greg...if you are still around on here....how is your anemone doing? also, do you still have stock lighting in the tank with anemone? I am thinking about getting an anemone and trying to coax the clowns into it. Kind of drastic, since my lighting is not super intense and the tank is up and running for only a little over 2 months. But if it will save the goni...it may be worth it.

Hi I am Hopeful Reefer and I a coralaholic, :)
Slow down man take baby steps. Seriously go slow when it come to stocking the tank to prevent serious problems down the road.
Just my two cents but it does look awesome!!

Steve, try getting a leather for the clowns to host or make a decision, the clowns or the goni. The clowns are what doomed my goni.

Hi Hopeful Reefer: Michael Moto! I'm Tom and I am a reefaholic. I admit that I am powerless when I enter a LFS.

Tom

Clowns will actually host in a variety of LPS and softies...some of the more popular non-anemone LPS hosts that clowns chose are frogspawn, torches and of course the aforementioned leathers...

Just remember you can't make a clown or not make a clown host in a specific coral or anemone...some will never go near what you chose for them...just keep this in mind...you can lead a horse to water and all that...

UGH, great!!!

I have a spawn and they never go near it, but the little thugs :) are nestling right into the goni. I mean, really getting in there and bedding down. The goni was pulling in for a while, but now kinnd of deals with it. Kind of interesting, but again, detrimental to the health of my goni. I will check out other options, but I thought that the anemone would be the answer. But HR has a point...just because I put an anemone in there doesn't mean the clowns will take to it.

I have a piece of LR in my FOWLR tank that is covered with hair algae. Guess what, that is what my Tomato Clown has decided to host.He treats it just like an anemone.

HR , nice dusters ! That is the first time I have seen a yellow variety. That is funny you mentioned a peppermint shrimp because yesterday morning when i woke up mine was running around the tank holding and eating the crown of a feather duster.

I do not know if the shrimp had pulled the worm out of his tube or the worm left the tube on it's own and then the shrimp decided to go to town on it!

My name is kingfish and I am a coralkaholic and i have been sober for....................................who am I kidding , I haven't been sober since my first taste of this cursed hobby!

Hows everyone's ricordia doing ?I might be picking up one or two!
Are they hardy? I heard they were more difficult than other mushrooms! Any tips would be helpful!

Rics are a breeze!
I don't understand how some people say they are harder to keep then regular mushrooms, imo they are the same. No spot feeding, no special care, I have some high in the tank, others lower in the tank.

Here's some pics of mine from a while ago.

Also there is a mushroom forum, right above the soft coral forum, lots of tips on how you can spot feed them if you want and how to frag them.

My lone ric is doing great. I am actually thinking of grabbing a few more as well. Just waiting until I see some really colorful ones.

My baby onyx clowns are now hosting in my crocea clam! I have been trying to get a picture but they will not stay still they hide when I get close unless there is food coming.

Where is a good inexpensive online dealer of ricordia? I want a few color morphs for the new tank.

Tom

Negative ghostrider, looks like the cardinal crapped the bed and was cleaned up by the crew, the nepthia was probably buried but I have a lead on another frag of that.

I don't know what it is with cardinals . They are suppose to be one of the hardiest fish around But on the two occasions I brougt them home they died with in two days.

colin, great link and great prices they evan have a reduced rate for priority mail 2-3 days. I might try it when it gets a little warmer! I love the Gorgonians there !did you see those?

I got 2 gorgs from them, the purple plume and the orange. The orange is cool, the purple had a purple center but brown polyps, looked ugly when it was polyped out :)
The orange is cool though.

Yeah once it warms up you can ship a lot of things via 2 day and save some cash.

I think the cardinal was wild caught, if I ever try another it will be a tank raised cardinal.

Can anyone help me out? I have noticed on a few of the other forums (LPS, esp.) that people are posting pics of crazy beautiful pieces of livestock and asking if they are a specific type ("is this the japanese rainbow?", for example). And then if it turns out its not what they thought, they seem a bit disgruntled. Maybe its because I haven't been in the hobby that long, but if I had a sweet piece of coral, I wouldn't care if its nickname was "the dogsh*t coral". Is it me, or are people really hung up on this?
