Hello

I have been reading your threads for quite some time (about 1 yr now) and decided perhaps I should at least say hi. Seahorses [and mandarins] are my favorites of all times. I do have other tanks (fresh and saltwater) but seahorses and mandarins are #1.

I am currently the mom of 4 dwarf seahorses and will soon redo my 34g solana (change landscape, lighting ,etc) to be home to seahorses (the number will depend on the type and their needs) and 2 mandarins. The 4 dwarfs sit on my desk in a picotope (3g) tank and are doing great. Unfortunately I am not getting much work done *grin*. I happened to look a little closer and it looks like one might be pregnant. All I can say is "am I ready for this if it happens?!" and "I may need a bigger tank".

Today is chaeto trimming day my small ball is a bit huge-r now. On that note, pleased to meet you all and I hope you are having a great weekend.

personally, i think 34gal. is too small for two mandarins. unless they are a pair (hopefully eating frozen) this will not work. you would have to feed them ALOT!!! id advise against it. SH can live with mandarins though =]

Hi there KzKym, nice to meet you.:)

You may want to move those cute little dwarf if you expect to get any work done, as you have already discovered. I speak from experience on that.

I will rethink the two mandarins in the 34g. I am also looking at a 120g tank but for corals and less fish. Perhaps the two mandarins would fare better there.

As for the SH tank and no work getting done, that continues to happen. The SH are relaxing and comical to watch. I guess I will just be doomed to work less *smile*

I appreciate the welcome.

they would..... most mandarins dont eat frozen foods, and the ones that do still do better in bigger tanks. They depend on more natural food in larger tanks, making it easier on you. having one in a 34gallon SH tank can be good though, because if you use a feeding dish (look around on RC if you dont know what that is) because they will eat from it.

best of luck
