New Topic - Electric Bills

It doesn't include bulk rate/ Fuel Charge. Our rate is about 6 cents to 6.5 cents a kwh. Bulk rate continues to go up. We are up to 44 dollars per 1000kwh. 4 years ago, it was 4 dollars. The increases are rediculous!

Fuel Adj @ 0.0016510 Per KWH

Is this what you are talking about relating to fuel charge? Where are you guys getting this $44 from?

The problem with the water heater timers is if you do not constantly take showers at the same time everyday you will find yourself constantly going to the timer to switch it on. On the weekends my wife and I do not take showers until later in the day after we have done our yardwork or housework so if the water heater is off then you only have enough hot water for maybe one shower and the next person gets cold water. We have a intermatic (sp) timer on ours and the thing broke and constantly stays on. Been broken for over a year and I really did not notice that much of a change in our bill. Not to mention it has saved me from the yelling of my wife in the cold shower after I had already showered and forgotten to flip the timer switch :p

I also think that turning your ac to 82-85 during the summer when you are gone is asking for trouble. FPL might reccomend that, but ask any ac company and they will tell you do not turn it over 80 during the day when you are not home. It is much harder on the ac to go from low 80's to 78 when you get home. Not to mention the humidity can be the worst problem. The humidity will get in your house as well as ductwork and begin to cause mold problems.

For our city, it is 44 dollars. Not sure about FPL or the others. That fuel adjustment is what they can raise I believe each month if needed. Bulk rate is what they actually pay for the electric. Then there is the charge per khw that you pay for the service. This is at least what we do.

I mentioned before bulk rate is 44 dollars per 1000kwh for our electric service. This is what the company pays for the actual electricity that gets passed onto the customer. For FPL, who knows that it is. They do exactly the same though. According to their website, they charge so much per kwh. Then they take on a surcharge of what they exactly pay to get the electricity. Whether it is made by gas, nuclear, or whatever.

Progress Energy has it split:4.9 cents per KWH for energy charge, 4.97cents per KWH for fuel charge. After the first 1000KWH, you'll be adding a cent to each of those charges.

1st 1000KWH = 9.87 cents per
>1000KWH = 11.87 cents per

Unfortunately, there is no on-peak/off-peak option for us.

Freed, you gotta realize, the heat down here does not allow us to get by with little energy. Sure, we could do a few things to help, but none that will be a magic cure.

Just pray for rain and hope we cool down soon.

79$ electric bill this month!!! I do live in a 1bd 1bath aparment though..lol. I am crazy about electric though, If I'm not using something its off. I think Teco might be a bit cheaper than progress aswell

Wow, mine used to be $65-75 a month when I had my condo. 1100 sqft, 2/2.5, $10 or less/month water, I miss those days.

Mike

2400 sqft and $279 for me...but would love for it to get around $100. If I knew that getting a new A/C and selling my tank would drop it to $100 a month...I would do it in a heartbeat.

Mike

Oh yeah, I want that new Trane XL19i. 19 Seer...thats what I'm talking about!

Then sell my fridge and get one with the energy star, along with a new dryer, stove and so on...lol

Mike

Mac, seems like you'll be spending 10K to get a 1-2k break per year. Better make sure to take care of those new utils if you want to save money...:)

10K is worth it in my opinion for multiple reasons. Considering that during the day my temp doesn't go below 83 with the A/C set at 80 and to me...83 is hot as hell. When I get home from work, it is so hard to get comfortable in that temp and not until about 9:30 - 10 does it drop down to 78 as my temp is set at 77.

My wife and I no longer sleep with a conforter because it is just too hot anymore.

Mike

Comfort from the heat, I will agree, is definitely worth that extra money(that will be close to averaged out in the end).

What's funny is in the last 4 years, my promotions have doubled my salary. However, I still feel broke with all the dang price increases. It probably doesn't help that I claim 0 single because I love getting back 6 to 7K a year back. I know I could put it to better use in a bank but to me it's outa sight outa mind. I keep my thermostat at 77 to 78. I do have multiple fans though in the house. My fish tank probably runs me about 65 dollars a month easily.

What's not funny is, in the last two years of working for the same company, they only income change has been that they stopped offering paid holidays and vacations. No raise, no cost of living increase, no nothing...just bye-bye what little benfits I did have. It's like working for a company for two years and getting a demotion...

And yes, I'm still feeling(AM) broke.
