Also, any ideas on when the black starts to show up? Im not sure how old they are now, but they are about 2" and 1.5-1.75"

thanks

Mike

Very nice think its around 12 months when they reach sexual maturity when the colour starts to show, but i dont have experience with these.

ohhhhhhh, nice. I'm looking for some just like that, and I'd like to know when they usually get the black coming in.

Good find, hopefully they pair up for ya!! looks like you are gunna need some patience though, ofcourse don't we all in this hobby!!!

thanks all.

i got them to eat today. they took in cyclopeeze, and some ORAGlo pellets. I dont think they took any of the mysis that went in with the cyclops, but im glad theyre eating.

Yeah, it depends, the black usually shows up when they become sexually mature, and that is around 12 months.

NICE clowns BTW, what are they? Grade C Picassos?

Have you tried soaking in garlic?

EDIT: I would say judging by size color, and where they came from I would say those guys are around 2 months old.

yes to the true percs, nice fish, bettre avatar the most entertaining drummer I have ever seen:D

There are no grades in normal true percula, only full bar & misbar.

You are clownfish god if you can get any A.percula to have three fully developed barred markings in 2 months. Those are at least 6-12 months old.

AT MAX they are 6, and ORA ships their fish out as soon as they feel they can make the trip, and think about a large company focused on makeing the most money as fast as possible. And at six months, they black coloration starts coming in, and 12, they have almost all of their black coloration, and they are sexually mature, both of which these clowns DO NOT have.

Dave, not trying to be controversal, but try breeding A.percula and let's see how long till it gets you get the full 3 bars marking (i.e. if you can even get the full bar marking - this is nothing against your breeding skills but the nature of this particular species' growout).

Feel free to ask ORA or any breeders how many % of their TRUE A.percula (not the ocellaris+percula hybrid) come out to be fullbar.

Ocellaris, you can sell at 2 months... true percula I highly doubt it.

i dont think color matters here... does it?

they got shipped thursday, arrived at work friday. i threw them in the tank overnight to see how they did. picked them up saturday. didnt eat until sunday, and then they just picked some cyclopeeze. the past 2 days theyve eaten sufficiently, but they arent too gung-ho about it.

basically, theyre still acclimating. any time we get picassos in at work, it takes a week or two for them to develop their deep color.

so how long until you think the black shows up? a few months until it starts?

Okay, so here's a question:

I got a true perc. from the same LFS about 5 months ago. Just noticed 3 black spots just behind and slightly up from the pectoralis fin. The best description is that they look like little black mold spots. From viewing, it's not like a fungus growth just little black spots. Is this what you guys are talking about darkening up?

But I can also tell you he/she is darkening up at the dorsal fin too.
I have it with a black/white perc. I added them about a week apart. There was a little squabbling the first couple days but now they're buds and are always together.

As a matter of fact, they just started hosting my RBTA, or is it the other way around? The RBTA settled in next to my toadstool leather which is about 4" across, and sometimes the black and white perc. will settle in in it too.

a pic from 3 months ago, a little blurry.

Dave sorry to correct you like vaporize did, but clowns do not color up when they become sexually active. Where are you getting this info from? I have tiny few week olds that have their black coming in already. My oldest clown was born October 31st, 2006 and he is yet to finish having his third bar. Its about half way in so like vaporize said its impossible to have full bars at 2 months. :)

just an update

tonight they were a little more energetic with the food. they ate cyclopeeze very easily, and alot more than usual, and even took some krill.

the larger one is starting to pick on the smaller, which im hoping will soon mean the smaller will become submissive and want to be a male
