New Tunze 6000 Questions

Roger,

I finally filled up my new 90 (only fresh water so far) and turned on my pumps and powerheads. A couple of questions regarding the 6000 with 7091 controller:

1. How noisy should it be? Right now it's putting off a very loud low picth hum. It is loudest during the slow pulse.

2. How deep (or where) should it be? I have it in on the back glass with the magnet holder about 1" from the right wall. The top of the magnet right at the water level, putting the center of the pump 4"-5" below the water level. I have it aimed toward the center of the front glass with a cheap powerhead on the back glass on the opposite side of the tank.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

The hum is pretty normal but these pumps are built with very tight tolerances and just like an engine they have to wear in and this takes a couple weeks. In general about 50% of the noise goes away in 2 weeks. It also helps to install the drive unit under water so all the air is removed.

Your placement sounds fine.

Thanks for the help. I can't complain about the noise from the tunze anymore because I can't hear it over my main return pump. My main return is really loud.

they are very quite as i have 2-6000 running right now on my 75. I think my CS6-2 skimmer is even louder. Hardly hear any noise at all.
