New Tunze 6055

Hi Roger,

I just purchased a brand new tunze 6055 from an authorized online retailer and the magnet set Inside the box were two different sizes (see picture) and the magnet on one side is exposed.

Is this normal size and the exposed magnet? Or was the tunze maybe opened before it was sold to me?

Thanks!

-Chris

Yes, that is the set that ships with a 6055 since Feb 2012. In 2009 China, which is essentially the sole source of rare earth magnets, nationalized production and drove up the price 600% over the next couple years. A lot of companies like ourselves switched to other magnetic materials, which are weaker, and some production has opened up or at least exploration in Australia, Canada and US. This is brought the price down a tad, but it still basically costs to build a set, what we used to sell them for. As a result the 6025.500 magnet was replaced by the 6025.515, one half is ferrite, which is ceramic and cannot rust, because it is weaker, to get close to a comparable strength, we need more and it cannot be coated. This allowed us to keep pump prices flat through this change in magnet prices. The old set held to 3/4", the new set can handle a tad over 1/2".

Hi Roger,

Can I submerge that open side under water? I want to put this in an all-in-one tank so the back side was going to be submerged in the back refugium of the tank.

If not, how can I go about purchasing one of the smaller submersible sides?

Thanks!

-Chris

All of our magnet holders are submersible, both halves. The exposed type are ferrite magnets which are a non corroding ceramic, the same material most impellers are made of.

Doh! It won't fit where I was going to move it. So couple questions:

1- Is there a part number to order a smaller sized version like the pre-2009?

2- Could I use a back to a 6025 magnet I already have?

3- what's the part numbers the new dampener clamp system to update an old 6055 to the new setup? I would like to order one to make it like this new 6055.

Thanks!

The magnet you have now is one half like an older model, one half the new ferrite style. You can get just another half like the inside half as part number 6025.501 (nano magnet extension), this boosts the holding power, you could also use a half from your 6025's.

I bought a 6025 nanostream and i noticed the same thing with the magnet size. I don't like the size of the outer magnet since it eats up a little more viewing area. The box pic and all the other pictures show equal sized magnets on each side.

That aside, I'm having a different issue. When i try to attach this to the tank the magnets repel each other rather than attract. I'm installing so that the elastic buffers are both facing the glass. Does that mean someone installed the magnets backwards in one of the holders? A Tunze quality slip attached has a 'g' written on it for who packed it. I bought this at BRS on 1/14/2014.

Please advise. My next step will be returning it if i can't get it to work.

Are you sure the magnets won't attract if you turn one so it is oriented differently? I suspect one magnet is in a opposite orientation and just needs to be turned 90-180 degrees. I don't see how they could have packed it if they repelled since they ship stuck together with a piece of foam between them. Also, the production process makes this nearly impossible as they are assembled on a table that only allows them to be installed the correct way as it repels them out of the case if they are wrong.
