New Tunze 9010 w/ bubbles

I installed the 9010 in sump, and I am pretty sure that I got it right. I added the piece with the hole where the outlet pipe plugs in, and changed the plate on the bottom. The sump is about 9" deep, and fairly calm in the way of flow. The skimmer has been running for about 30 hours and the foam is still at the same level in the cup, nowhere near the top, and there are tons of microbubbles returning into the tank. Does this sound pretty close to average as far as a break in.

Thanks Rob C.

It depends on several factors but usually within 48 hours some skimming starts. Unless their are a lot of colloids in the water from dechlorinators, stress coats, vitamins and amino acids you should not have that many bubbles escaping. Is water exiting the stand pipe and the small hole in the back?

Yes there is water exiting the stand as well as the hole in the back. It has been up for another day now and the tank microbubbles are considerably reduced. The foam is also rising all the way up the neck now as well. It is looking much better than yesterday.
As far as colloids in the water, I don't add anything to the water as far as amino acids or dechlorinators, and I only use ro/di water with the chloramine filters.

For the most part though after the break-in period the skimmer will be almost bubble free correct? as I have no way of putting baffles in the sump, and this is half of the reason I upgraded skimmers. My old skimmer would blow micro bubbles for a whole day after putting my hand in the tank.

It sounds like all you have to do is adjust the air to get it to skim now.

The bubbles will reduce more over the next couple weeks but certain fatty foods and the oils from your skin can increase the amount of microbubbles produced by the skimmer. If you cannot add a baffle just keep the skimmer as far from the return pump as possible and keep the flow through the sump low.

Alright sounds good. It is working good now, it has pulled out the same amount of crap in the last few hours as my old skimmer did in three days. And it still hasn't completely broken it yet. I am definitely happy with the skimmer.

Thanks for your time. Rob C.
