new type of ro prefilter

I use a 0.2 micron pre-filter and can assure you that it doesn't do anything to TDS or change any ratio of good/waste water, like Icefire stated. It does go a long way to protecting your carbon block, which you want to pull things other than particulates.

yup exactly what i thought. and cant wait to tell the guy who showed this to me that his uncle is full of cra..and is basicaly selling an aquaecolizer or what ever its called..

did you guys read the entire page cause they try to make it seem like it isnt a normal .2 micron block... and FWIW you guys arenot using a .2 micron you guys are most likely using a 2 micron or 5 micron prefilter

My guess is that they are using .2 micron prefilters from spectrapure. They sell .2 micron sediment filters that are supposed to last much longer than standard 1 or 5 micron blocks. But they also cost a lot more.

"Sub-Micron Water Filtration & Prefiltration - Turbidity Removal - Iron Reduction

NanoCeram® Pleated Filter Cartridges provide unusually high flow rates, yet provide extremely efficient filtration solutions for a myriad of applications. Whether used in the field, in a prefiltration mode for ultra-pure water systems, to produce laboratory or process water, in commercial/industrial water treatment, as a microbiological sampler, or as a stand-alone filtration device, a NanoCeram® filter performs at a level never before believed possible.

The NanoCeram® electropositive technology accomplishes this by delivering the low pressure-drop (∆P) associated with a 2 µ - 3µ filter, yet achieving a removal efficiency of 99.9% for 0.2µ particles. When this patented technology is incorporated into a pleated cartridge, the additional surface area which pleating affords results in a dirt-holding capacity far exceeding other filter medias up to 25 times greater*. In fact, the filter media in a standard NanoCeram® cartridge can capture and retain an amount of particulate which is 3.5 times its own weight.

"The unique proprietary technology uses a highly electropositive filter to rapidly adsorb particles, no matter how small. The average pore size of the filter cartridge's media is 2 microns, yet it functions as if it were a nominal 0.03 micron filter given its virus and colloidal particulate adsorption efficiencies. Flow rates and clogging resistance are tens to hundreds of times greater than equivalent performing membrane filters.

and to be clear the only reason im giving this a second look. is apparently they have military contracts.
anyways. the guy is supposed to get me one to try out and see what it does. i doubt he will ever go throu with it. but w/e

I'm not saying that those filters are not high quality; just noting that they aren't the only ones available. It may even outperform the units here; it's nice to see other places offering higher quality products. It's a nice change from all of the crap that has flooded this industry.

Turbidity and iron are suspended solids (TSS) , not dissolved solids(TDS). Prefilters remove the big stuff and membranes remove the small stuff.
I also use a Spectrapure 0.2 micron pleated prefilter and am doing a pilot study to see if my 0.5 micron Chlorine Guzzler carbon will actually remove 20,000 gallons worth of chlorine. With a larger micron size prefilter this is not possible as the carbon is actually acting as a sediment filter too by trapping stuff in the range between the prefilters and 0.5 microns. I have installed a 5/8" flowmeter in my tap water in line to record the total gallons passing through the unit including the waste stream which people tend to forget also goes through the carbon block and thus shortens its life expectancy. I may make 100 gallons per month of DI water but I also use much more than that in RO only for drinking, cooking and icemaker then add in the 4:1 waste flow. You may really be passing a couple thousand gallons a month through the prefilter and carbon block. Don't skimp on filter quality.
