I took this video today and wondered if any of you who have been raising seahorse fry have an opinion on the tank divider? I bought it because the babies seemed crowded in the in tank nursery and they look more comfortable now. I am worried about bacteria even though I use a tooth brush on it every day. Should I buy another and bleach one every other day? I need to earnestly start them on some food other than live brine shrimp as they are eating me out of house and home.

wow, those guys look real healthy. Don't have much to offer - I'm brand new at this.
I am new too, this is my first batch and I do think I experienced some beginner's luck. I read a lot of what rayjay posted on raising fry and cleaning and enriching baby brine. That helped me tremendously. Bacteria is the biggest enemy and you can't test for it. You just have to diligently keep up husbandry. I chose to use an 'in tank' nursery to get filtration from my whole system but I did a lot of WCs so as to not risk my adult seahorses and corals. I already used a probiotic in that system and it has a chiller to control the temperature to keep bacteria down. I did put a light at the bottom of the nursery to keep the fry away from the surface. I only began lighting from the top this past week. I hope that helps.

Thanks every one for the kind encouragement. Another good thing happened today. I added some frozen enriched brine shrimp with the live and they ate some of both. This afternoon I didn't even add the live to their meal and they ate it. I am not sure if there is enough nutrition in enriched frozen brine shrimp so I will make sure they get plenty live brine that I enriched too. I will start mixing some frozen mysis in with the frozen brine shrimp soon too.

That is great! Has your pair had any more fry? Your choice for keeping 10 was very brave but has paid off. Congrats again. :-)

No more fry but they have courted twice that I know of since the babies were born but she missed his pouch and I found eggs in the tank. Actually I am ok with that because I have my hands full with the babies I have and I'd be looking for homes for anymore fry. Yes, only keeping some of the fry paid off. I thought it was only 10-12 but I had 22 after I gave 12 away. I still have 15, I think. LOL

You clearly did a good job raising the ones you kept! They look nice and healthy!
Thanks JLynn. I am working on getting them to take frozen brine shrimp right now. I am still giving them live enriched brine shrimp as well. They eat it but not with the same enthusiasm as live. It's a start though.

My baby seahorse are 9 weeks old today, (New Years Eve 2014). They eat frozen food about 75% of the time and only 1 out 4 feedings are live now. There is still a large difference in some of their sizes and I am still not sure if the the 2 smallest will make it to adulthood. I guess there is no guarantee any of them will make it but it looks much more favorable at this point.
