Just heard from Paul today that my 4-way is on its way. I just can't wait. Now I only need the tank to get here so I can start!

Lunchbucket,

I really dont want to run the pipes over the top. But that option is open for a future enhancement.

cgh38, my setup is 1 '' all around. From pump to 4-way to tank.

BlueTBird,
Did you get a version 4 drum? If not, have you considered the possibility that your pump and lines will experience excessive wear or strain due to the flow being temporarily shut off between open cycles?

I had a talk with Paul from Oceansmotions on this issue. He has told me that he modified the drum so that there is always an overlap, no chance of hurting the motor, it was a modified version 2.

This is why I love this place, I would of never thought to ask. thanks weatherson!

Question. I just set up a new 120 with an oceans motion HD 4way with an ampmaster running through it. I have the same return pump, lighting, everything carried over from an existing 60g. The only thing new in the ampmaster and oceans motion. The new tank runs pretty hot. The new tank stand is totally open so air moves all around under the tank (with a fan over sump)First thing in the morning its at 83 and it stays that way all day (maybe climbing a half degree) Today I unplugged my heater thinking maybe it stuck on. I got home tonight after 11 pm and in the hottest room of my house it is only 78 degrees. My tank is still 83. I felt the ampmaster and its cool, return Iwaki pump and its cool, I then touched the motor on the oceans motion, and its pretty damn hot. Has anyone else noticed extra heat in there tank after putting in the HD 4way?

I have no increase in temp 80-81.5. Have you tried a diferant temp measuring device or see if the one you have is calibrated. I have felt mine and it's not hot at all. You may have some binding if you tightend the bushings to much they could be slowing the drum down.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe Ill tear it out, install the new care package from paul and check on binding at the same time.

Well I received a used computer heatsink/fan, I attatched this to the top of the oceans motion motor. With just the heat sink (fan not running) the motor was noticibly cooler. I turned the fan on last night and when I got home today the water temp dropped to 81.4. I also dropped the MH lights closer to the water. Guess I should have waited to do that to see what the temp difference was. I still want to tear the OM apart and double check my fittings. Maybe Ill do that this evening.

What is the care package from Paul that you guys are talking about? Is there some modification that is now suggested on the unit? I have an HD 4-way that is exactly how it was received about a month ago, am I missing something? Thanks

Pics of my 8 Way

I have my plumbing 95% done and figured I would post a couple of pics of Paul's unit.

Rear of tank. This includes plumbing for the 8 way(blue dots) Another closed loop with 3 returns currently, and the return from the sump is split 4 times.

Now, if I just had two more 4-ways, I would be set. :)
