New wavemaker- awesome!!!

That sounds like alot of plumbing over the top of your tank. It seems like that would make doing maintenance on the tank difficult. I'm wondering if this thing is light enough that it could hang off the back of the tank by the pvc 90's from the returns (kind of like how most people have their SCWD plumbed).

I'm sure it would be easy to figure out if I had one but I'm not ready to make that leap until I see it on some comprable tanks.
 
I don't know that look's like a plumbing nightmare to me as well.
Looks like everyone would have to do a custom plumb job to make it work for their setup. (this could be a real headache for some) Call me lazy, but I prefer plug and play :D

my 75g which is only a few inches from the back wall and has 6 T5's filling the canopy which can't be blocked by pvc piping. Personally, Just looking at the pics and video I can't see how I could hook a 4-way to all that plumbing up without running into several problems trying to get the bends out of my stand just right and not block the lights etc...

Hi Todd

Maybe this will help, maybe it won't

run a feed line from your pump to the back edge of your tank, screw the 4-Way onto it and install fittings as shown the body of the 4 way will carry the lines no problem.

That looks feasible. I have about 5" behind my tank, would that be enough room to accomplish this (I"m not sure on the dimensions of the 4-way unit in the diagram.) I may have to mount the unit below the tank and just bring the pipes up and over the tank edge.

Also, how much does this unit weigh?

Anyone know if they are going to have a 1.5" inlet eventually.
I need an option for a 450 gallon tank. I have new Tunzes to install in the next couple of weeks, but this may be their eventual replacement.:D

"The main inlet is supplied standard at 1 1/2 NPT, simply insert a reducer to meet your pumps capacity, or fittings."
 
So on that 4 way unit, the input of water is underneath the unit and it pushes the water from that input, 90 degrees outwards of the circular main unit right? I'm thinking I can maybe find a way to rig my main return line out from the corner of the tank (I have a 92 gal corner reef ready) to two outlets out the top (what I was going to do with a scwd possibly), and then two additional ones running... ehh.. I dunno.. somewhere else! Just thinking of some possibilities without too much ugly plumbing. BTW, for me, the video page still doesn't work, if you can just post the direct link to the files, that would work out better as I was able to view the one video with the file links.

I was going to ask what system you wer using, then I noticed your sig... :D :thumbsup:

I'm currently stuck using Windows so the WMV files work fine for me.
 
I did play them, they were black oddly, moaved to a different machine and they're fine

guess something is up

MarkS: guess the casuality of using a unix based machine.
 
Okay, those links you posted worked for me and I'm on a mac... Do you have the latest version of Windows Media Player? If not, go get it and try that. Will the 'revolutions' turn 360 degrees?

I did a quick rendering of the best way I could think to hook up the 8-Way version. Would probably have to make a bracket to hold the wavemaker so it doesn't sway during opperation.

Cool device though. Hope my little rendering helps.

I actually think I'd like this way better. Only problem is there are a lot of elbows so that may affect the flow a little.

In that second rendering you have I count four 90 degree bends (not including the final output).
How much flow loss is there with that?
 
Heck if I know. I just make pretty pictures. I can't imagine it would be too much loss but it all depends on the pump.

All I do know is that wavemaker is a bit much for my 55g. Hehe
 
Paul,

I know that this is probably asking too much as you already said that you could make a 180-degree model revolution, but would it be possible to make a 90-degree model too? That way it would fit better into the corner of tanks...... Of course there is the flip-side of the coin, that with the full 360-degree rotation in a corner, you could get some more interesting wave-action that would travel down the side of the glass to provide current near the bottom of the tank, but I think that with the flow I wanna put through one of these babys that it might kick-up my sand.... :(
