Thanks Paul, I think that answered my question. I saw the synchronization potential as more of a problem than an advantage. I wasn't so much worried about the motors "accuracy" (ie. being able to keep time with an atomic clock) as it being slaved to a line frequency, which could make the motors synchronize.

Another thought from the weekend: it would seem that the Revolutions would be wonderful if hooked to a surge tank like Borneman describes in his book.

I guess a picture is worth a thousand words, or at least 1500 hits!

Surge to the revolutions sounds interesting, It would need to be tested though, but still a good concept.

cheers

Paul

I was thinking of using one of the outlets from an 8 way (The Octopus???) to fill my surge head tank (I just cant let go of my 2" motorized valve:D). This eliminates one pump in my setup.

The server is down right now but I thought it said the heavy duty version of the 4-way was 2 inch inlet and 1 1/2 inch outlets. I was wondering about the port sizes of the original regular(or light duty) one myself.

I talked to Paul yesterday. standard 4 way is 1 inch all the way around. Heavy duty is as described above.

Does the 'revolution' rotate with constant flow? In other words, will it rotate if plumbed directly to a pump?

At what rate do the oultets open and close?

Thanks,
Vin

No. It uses a pulse from a switching current device to advance the ratcheting mechanism. Think of the mechanics in the top of a retracting ball point pen.

If you hook your pump up to a simple timer I don't see why not.

I have an 8 way. It is running on my tank. I love this thing. It is quiet, easy to plumb, and does a great job pushing water. It cost the same as two sea swirls and I have 8 sources of flow. Much better deal IMO.

I hope Paul does very well with this thing. It certainly has changed the entire planning on my tank for the better. I did not use the revolutions, but did leave room in the system if I decide to add them.

Hey Paul..

I was wondering what are the dimensions of the "Revolutions"??

Thanks,
Typhon

If you were to split the pump returns to say 4 revolutions, and run the pump for 5 mins then turn it off for about 30 seconds all the units would float !/2 inch and rotate 22.5 degrees, once the pump kicked in again they would all lower by 1/2 " and rotate another 22.5 degrees, water would then exit all the units to different directions, this would repeat causing 8 different wave patterns every 45 minutes before repeating.

I will add dimensions to a "revolution " drawing and post shortly

Paul

8 way

8 way

I received some video and pictures from Tracy,of the 8 way which was the first to be installed , I will try and get them up on the site.

I decided to remove the original prototype from my system and install the 8 way in a closed loop using a Sequence pump.

I laid out the tank dimensions on the kitchen floor. 180 Oceanic bow, and proceded to cut and glue.

took about 3 hours , all the final fittings are left unglued for final installation and flow requirements and direction.

Hope this helps someone

Hi Paul!
I finally plumbed my 8 way.
I works amazing. I want to set up another reef just so I can buy a 4 way from you.
I am very very impressed with your creation.
Thanks again.
I will try & post some pics soon.

Hi Paul I am very interested in your revolutions.
I have one question first, could I run it upside down.
Please let me know ASAP
Serge
