For closed loops and situations with minimal back-pressure, non-pressure rated pumps are usually a better option - they use less energy, and typically produce more flow (and are cheaper, too!).

And quieter. If you want a decent amount of flow it is VERY hard to find a pressure rated pump that runs quietly.

Got my Heavy-Duty 4-way today As other lucky souls have stated, it is built like a tank. It is about three pounds and solid as a rock. Can't wait to get it up and running hopefully this weekend. I'll post some pics after the plumbing is complete. Overall, before I even have any water in the mix, Paul was great to deal with, always answered emails promptly and had good advice/ideas. Thanks for all your help. Remember to let me know or post when the 1" Revs are ready for production. Again, great product!

kyleka: Sound like a cool set-up! Is your 4-way running two outputs at a time? This would be a good indicator for my plumbing... It makes sense to me to add outputs versus throttling back the punp. I figure each 1" would recieve at least 500gph (probably more) though I haven't confirmed with any head loss calcs ect ..

Don't forget that you'll only have flow out of two outlets at a time. I bet you'll end up with way more than 500 gph at each outlet. But, maybe not, this plumbing stuff is all new to me. Once you have it up and running be sure to let us know.

golfnut, sorry forgot your name... Question about your device, it is basically a multi port motorized ball valve. However your device is in rotation constantly as opposed to intermediate motion on a normal ball valve. How long do you think you orings/seals will last on the oceans motion? Please do not take this as an attempt to slam, I am just curious.

I second on the design and add material quality! If I would have seen this thread before I purchased 2 x1" seaswirls I would have gone with the 8-way and ditched the SS's.

Good question,

first it is not a ball valve, but a drum which is driven as you say constantly at 1rpm, the shaft does have a seal on it, specifically designed for rotary applications, however while the pump is running at 4000gph I can actually remove the driveshaft and the seal and still have no water even appear, the design uses the pressure of the water to seal it's self with thrust seals, likely good for 5 years.. FREE!! if you need to replace them, I make them

If you are using a 3000gallon per hour pump you will always be pumping 3000gph no matter where the drum is , or even if you turn the unit off, it doesnt matter if you have 1 or ALL ports open it will still be 3000gph entering the tank..

Thanks for the feedback. Actually I am looking at splitting each output two ways so I would be running 4 outputs per sequence instead of two.

I got mine! And wow it's beautiful. I just have to find a pump for the closed loop now, as I don't think I'm going to plumb my sump return with it after all cause I need more flow! Oh well, it will look good as the centerpiece on the dining room table for a few weeks

I just got my 4 way unit plumbed in and running. I will take some pics tonight and give an update...
