This would be great in a propagation set up. Imagine eight tanks, all independently drilled with a common sump. Have the 8-way unit plumbed to the retun pump with one outlet in each tank (preferably on the opposing side of the overflow). This would create a wave action in each tank as each outlet cycled. Basically, you get eight surges without a single surge tank. By creatively splitting the outlet plumbing, you can double the number of tanks without adding another unit.

after some more thinking last night, which always ends up in me spending more money... i think i'm gonna go with the 8 way setup just in case i upgrade to a larger tank down the line. i currently have 4 3/4" bulkheads on the back of the tank with locline outlets. i figured i can run 2 outlets on each side of the center brace with a revolution and 1 outlet on each front corner. what do you think about this setup? pump will be a AM3K

Nam, I just got my HD 4 way today. If you were still local Id say swing on by and check it out. This thing is quiet! I set it on my granite counter and had to put my ear right next to it in order to hear it!

Nam, I've got one that I haven't plumbed yet if you wanna check it out--that's provided you're coming by for that frag this weekend.

I'm not sure who I made those custom 45's for but there was a huge space restriction and it was the only possible solution, I guess it worked well , there was only 4" behind the tank.

If anyone has a unique problem for plumbing I am always up to a challenge, and if its 1 1/2 loc line you are after it is a challenge!

Hey if you can make these things, you must be able to make loc line? I doubt they have any patents on it. :)

Does anybody know a good supply for threaded street 45's to slip fittings?

McMaster-Carr has threaded M-F 45's(1"=46885K104), but no MPT-Slip. They also have FPT-FPT 45's(1"=4596K24).

You can also take a 1" slip 45 (4881K33) and glue in a half nipple (9173K35) to make what you want.

All the above is gray sch-80 PVC.

Been shopping their catalog for fittings all night. :)

Thanks for the research. I will definitely get my book out and check it. Just be aware of the slightly smaller than the ID of sch-40, so there will be a little more restriction. Not sure the actual difference.

Hey Paul, I just got my HD 4way yesterday. Thanx a million for expressing it to me! One question though. I wanted to get familler with it before I plumb it up. What sort of special sockets do you use for taking out those two nylon bolts? My Snap On sockets wont fit in the recessed hole... is it metric or standard, and what size? If I have to turn down a socket, I only want to machine one!

He told me he just uses a slotted Screw driver. I had a problem with my unit and he took care of me on the spot.. Paid for the return shipping and shipped me a new unit. What a pleasure to do business with.

I may have missed it but what are the dimensions of the 8 way and the 4 way unit? I seen their weight, but not dimensions. Can they be mounted upside down if need be?

the 4 way is about 4" diameter and with motor about 7" tall. The 4 way could be mounted any way you want...

Hi mane3215.

I guess you could mount it any way you wish, the only issue would be if you decided to swap out the drum for a different flow pattern then it would make sense to make access simple, I recommend that it is installed above the water line in the normal way, this saves installing ball valves on each outlet so as not too drain the tank during drum changes etc. any reason to run it outside the norm?

Currently I am going to order a 75g 30x24x24 tank. I am waiting to get this device straight (my planning) before I do so. I am planning on two holes just below the euro bracing for returns to run below eurobrace and drop toward the middle or front of tank with a revolution on each.

Then I will need two other returns drilled into the back for the other two outlets, and one intake. I haven't decided on the placement of any of there. Over flow will be int he center.

I want to have a very clean setup, and it will be open top so I don't want the unit behind the tank above the water line. I will be going through anything I can to cram everything inside the stand which will probably be about 30x31 or so. I wanted to mount the 8 way (since its flat) upside down on the bottom of the top of the stand (if that makes sense, the top being where the tank would be sitting, unit on the underside) as well as the pump if its ok per the manufacturer (if not I could build a bump out ledge on the back. I only wanted minimal plumbing (3 pipes down on the lower end of tank for two returns one intake) and two up top (the two returns under eurobracing).

I guess this is a long winded explanation for me trying to say I want the absolute tightest neatest setup possible. =). What do you think? The 4 way being round and not flat I think would make this more difficult.
