New Yuma Acclimation?

I just bought a new Blue and Orange Yuma from my LFS last Sunday and was wondering what the best way to acclimate it would be. I currently placed it in full shade under a rock but am kind of afraid to put it into direct light. My last Yuma (purple/green) shriveled up and died from the infamous bacterial infection even though it was under a ledge. I don't want to make a mistake with this one and kill it.

I have high hopes for this guy because he was born from a Yuma that the LFS had there for at least a year or so. He is about 2.5" in size and about 5 months old. He was also about 20-24" under Kessil A350W's that were mounted about 16"AWL.

I currently have an AI Hydra26 mounted 12"AWL in a mixed reef and it will eventually be around the same distance from the light. About 20-24".

Any help would be appreciated.

Well your off to a good start on acclimating it but they do like the light but not too much flow from my experience...about a year or so ago I got one as a hitchhiker that started out as a baby and now has become a parent of about 10 little ones...btw it's a green and orange yuma but I'm sure all yumas have the same care...You have any pics..I can post some of mines if you'd like

From what I have read, Yuma's get shocked if put into too much light too fast and they should be acclimated to light extremely slow. Is this correct? I placed him in FULL shade under a rock and he's been there for a week now.

I also heard that you can start slowly moving them into light when they start to stretch for the light. What does it look like when they stretch for the light?

Flow currently is pretty gentle for him so I think he is happy there.

I think my next step is to push him out a little into the light and see what he does. What do you think?

I'm including a pic for reference but it is taken with the flash so it's much darker under his cave. LOL.

I think it needs more light..he will literally double in size and his bubbles will pop out...You can slowly bring him out to some light to see how he reacts..here's mine

OK. Will move him to the right front corner of the tank and see how he does. What do I look for as far as stress?

Shrinking..not opening up..in a day or two you should know if he's happier or not..good luck and keep us updated

Well, here it is in the sand today. Been 3 days. Doesn't seem to be spread out as much but looks pretty healthy.

So far it has eaten a small piece of Mysis everyday by catching it in the current when I feed the fish so I think that is a good thing. It even fought off a nassarius snail on Mon. and a hermit crab yesterday for it and won both times! Surprised me that it could do that!

Nice..Yea when they do eat I don't know if they're actually fighting off they're enemies could just be that the mushroom Is so slimy they can't get to it s mouth..pretty funny watching the snail and crab trying to get to it..
The yuma seems to be bubbling up nicely,I would put some rubble or empty shells around it so it can lay on and perhaps make baby's around it...if you don't he can float away if not happy...looks nice btw..hopefully he'll stay happy for you

Well, here's an update on my Yuma. It seems to be very happy and I finally mounted it onto a rock of its own since it had a baby. As seen in the pics, it is having yet another baby as it stretches it's foot again. Hopefully, I'll have a rock full of these Yuma's soon.

Looks very happy, the more they grow the cooler they look.
