I stopped by Aquatic Environments this morning and saw some interesting zoo's that I couldn't pass up. I'm a sucker for non-brown zoo's

Zoo's

A few weeks ago during the clubs pizza party I picked up a rather drap Acan colony AE, with the one day club discount. Well it produced two new polyps and they have some nice coloring, red with white stripes.

You will like the acans. Once they get to where they open up at night or with the introduction of food to the tank start feeding them with a turkey baster directly, mysis works well, and they will grow faster then you can believe.

Zoas look very nice! It looks like the other acans are a little bleached out or something. I'm sure they'll color up. I "baste" mine with mysis and usually they open up as soon as there is a hint of food in the tank. I noticed last night that they even caught some flake food.

How are the prices there for stuff like that?

Thanks for the feeding info guys, I'll give it a try. They were AE's usual price $49.00 kind of high but I'm an addict. I've been looking at some interesting zoo's online their were about 10 or 15 polyps for 30.00 but shipping was another $30.00 I got about 60 polyps on this so I guess it wasn't to bad.

I scored two clown fish from annamarie421 a week ago and have been feeding them rotifers, mysis, brine and formula one. I think the coral's have been enjoying the feedings. I've got about 4 new baby ric yuma's, and the baby acan's.

Did you buy the yumas there as well, any pics?

$49 isn't bad for that chunk of zoas. You should have seen what our lfs had for $49 today! :rolleye1: Nothing like paying $49 for a 1" stalk of Kenya tree.

So you've got the 58G up and running now?

Getting there, slow process due to 2 daughters in college putting a crimp on logistic purchases.

I got the sump/fuge built, overflow and return plumbed, and the closed loop setup. I'll post pics.

The following items still remain to be purchased, looking for good deals, here is the tentative list:

can you frag yumas i thank i have one. if i can frag it how would i do it.

You can bust it off the rock with a hammer and chisel. But I prefer to put a power head on them and they will release. You can remount them or slice em up and double your ric collection. Feed the yuma's and they will drop babies, it's less messy than slicing them.

I got the yuma's from Bullet a couple of months ago, they are a dark red color under the PC's that I am using now. I had them under MH and they were a lighter color. I'll post pics once they open up the actinics are on now.

I would suggest you spend the extra to go with the six stage unit. It will save you DI material as you can completely exhaust the first stage of DI before moving the second stage to the first stage and then put new material in the second stage.

OCEANREEF2.jpg

It will also prevent you from having your TDS creep up on you as you get towards the end of life on the DI cartridge. I am using a lot less DI material now since adding the second stage to mine, I know it will pay for itself in a couple years, plus I know I am always putting 0 TDS water in the tank.

Thank's for the info Billy. I'll be placing the order next week, I need to get some saltwater in the tank. I know they were using Chloramine in the water around here, but I heard that the Iowa American Water had changed to to a different kind of chlorine.
Hopefully this won't cause any problem with the RODI filtration.

what do you feed you yuma's

I turn off the flow and target feed a variety of foods. Mysis shrimp, frozen rotifers, enriched baby brine shrimp, DT's phytoplankton and oyster eggs. I've been feeding my tank about 4 times a day for the past week, I'm trying to get my clowns to mate. The coral's seem to like the heavy feeding, the tank is three years old with a hang on refugium and I have not had any negative consequences as of yet.

That's awesome that you're trying to breed the clowns, Al! Are you planning to try hatching and raising the young? I'd love to see a full tank shot if you've got any.

Anna :)

Hi Anna, I'm gonna give it a shot. I plan to attempt to raise the young. I've been following threads in the breeders section and have some ideas. I also ordered a book clownfishes by Joyce D. Wilkerson.

Here's a tank shot, not to colorful. But I've got some ideas for my zoo/mushroom tank that's in the works.
