I'm kind of new to the whole clam thing and might have a stupid question.

My clams seem to have signinficant growth, ( a lot of new white shutes growing) they close when ever you get close to them, but when I compare my new clam (only a few days old) to the older clams (a month old) the older clams seem to have larger intakes. (don't know proper name)

Here's the newest clam:

Here's the older clam:

Indication of problems or happiness???

no such thing as a stupid question

the clam in the first pic is a Maxima and it looks fine. the second clam is a Crocea and it also looks fine. some Croceas tend to hold there incurrent syphons open a little bet more then other clams. in croceas it not really anything to worry about
