Newbie ?: Do Aussie Acans sting each other?

Hi:

I have a medium sized rock and am considering putting more than one Aussie Acan frag on it. Will they sting each other if they grow too close?

Thanks.

Different aussie acans can, for sure, yes. Lordhowensis wont sting each other, neither will hillae, neither will bowerbanki, but put the different aussie acans together and they will. Ex: acan lord next to an acan bowerbanki. As long as you keep the same type of acan together you should be fine.

sting or not i wont put them too close anyway. for long run they need room to grow too. you want them to grow don't you?

Here are some of mine grouped together and many touching.

The problem with this question is the word "aussie", implies that they are their own specie. The term Aussie is getting thrown around so much I'd think the Austrailians are almost getting tired of hearing it

Like zeppelin touched down on, depends on what specie of acan. Where the specie was collected from ie., Australia, or somewhere in the indo-pacific, does not matter. What matters is if it's an echinata, sub-ech, lordhowensis, hillae etc. Two lordhowensis can touch regarless from what region they were collected, the same goes for every coral we encounter in the hobby.

I don't want to hijack the thread but, is there a reason why your acans are on eggcrate?

so I have an acan touching a scoly and so far both seem okay -- am keeping an eye on them but so far nothing looks bad .....

I had just set up my new 120g and my Tunze 6100 kept covering them up so I put them on the crate till I could get it figured out. Got it pretty much under control although there is a spot of no sand still in the center front. Some of the acans are no mounted and some are on the sand bed growing. Here is a recent tank shot. Still lots of frags, but the tank is new and it's got to grow right? :D
