Newbie Live Rock questions

I am new in the marine though have been keeping Freshwater fishes for a while now.

I have a few questions about LiveRocks:

1) I have several pieces of "dead" dried coral rocks I used for my freshwater setup. Can I use a few pieces of live Rocks to seed these dead coral rocks bring them "back to life"?

2) How much light do live rocks need? My tank's beside the window and get a couple hours of direct early morning light. Is this OK?

Thank you

first are you going fish with LR? what size is your tank? and no, to direct sun. yes you can seed, i would boil first to kill unwanted bacteria/germs.

reef tanks are usually 1.5 lbs of LR per Gallon. the only life you will get is coralline. LR when recieved will have hitch-hickers such as worms, filter feeders, and various other form of life in it. and hopefully lots of coralline. bertoni has a thread on substrates you may wish to read. very helpful and easily understood. i use a DSB, but not all recommend one. its your choice. remember, research and advise on RC is free.
