newbie needs help!!!

im being turned to the idea of a couple of firemouths, would these be ok?? would really like to keep a mandarin , but everyone is saying it wouldnt work so im not going to, it wouldnt be fair!! mayb when i do a 24 cube il think about it, but on a later date theory!! anyways back to this tank lol, 2 clowns and 2 firemouths,6 redleg hermits,6 blue leg hermits, and 2 cleaner shrimps, how does this sound???? could i add more fish or would u say im on my limit???

I would say that you're pushing the limit with those 4 fish. I wouldn't go any further. You might need to find a pair of firefish, because two males might fight. I don't remember the details on those fishes.

I would ditch the hermit crabs since they can be predatory, but one might not be too destructive. Twelve is a lot for a cleanup crew in that size tank, and they'd probably starve or need extra food. A selection of snails would be the way I'd go. Maybe start with a few Trochus and a few cerith, and see how that goes.

yeah soz angels dnt know why i put fire mouth lol , still a little hung over lol!! what would u recomend to add if one more?? post pic like last if poss!!! thanx again

The Linckia starfish typically don't do well. I would avoid them. Starfish on average don't seem to be good bets. The more hardy ones eat corals. Serpent stars will do well enough, but can be predatory, so need to be chosen carefully.

the blennie is a lovely fish but its just never appealed to me to be honest, i think im just gona keep to the 2 clowns and 2 firefish to start with, im gona see how i get on with the 33g and plan a bigger system now i think for the future, to try and accomadate the fish im after like a yellow tang, regal tang, and eventially a pair of mandarins,! im gona keep it basic for now, thanx again for all yr help guys, uve answered alot of things that were playing on my mind!!! oh one more thing, in my 33g how many power heads would u recomend if any??? its gona be FOWLR to start with but i will eventially add some soft corals!! which i understand like a gd water flow???

a couple maxijet powerheads will work fine or seio's. you will want around 330 gph turnover in the tank minumum more won't hurt anything

thanx sam, these power heads, r they quite small? as im trying to hide everything away so its not seen, ive laid a egg crate sheet on the bottom of the tank as i dnt really want the live rock to sit straight on the glass bottom, and built a tower in the corner out of egg crate which im going to put the filter inlets ,heater, scimmer inlet, and power head, and then build the live rock up the tower which i think may help with filtratioin as the water will be drawn through the rock to the filter inlets, would this be a gd way to do it????? will i get any benefits from doing it this way????

thanx sam, the link was great, very interesting and might just solve my problem!!! what did u think of my idea with the tower and lr???? do u think it will work to my benefit???

the tower idea is a good idea, just make sure to leave alot of gaps when stacking the LR around the tower so that your water will get through it with ease.

cool, im having some trouble trying to figure out how to keep the lr supported up the tower, im gona use epoxy and prob zip tyes, any other ideas????
