Hello fellow Delaware reefers! Well I just bought a 125, and I am so excited to get this tank started! I have done salt before but for this tank instead of going fowlr I am going to make an attempt to build a reef. This brings me to you swell people. I have read numerous post and websites regarding sumps and I think I want to go this route, I may even want to add a fuge in there also. I have no clue how to build these things the diagrams look easy but as far the construction I am a liitle intimidated. I was wondering if somebody could take me under thier wing and help me get started. Maybe even show me how to build one, I am sure once I build one I will be able to take off on my own. I live in dover and would be happy to meet up somewhere. Thanks:rollface:

Welcome. A little info on yoru plans would be helpful before you begin. What dimensions are you looking at any size constraints? Is there going to be an skimmer in the sump?

Hi scooby, there has been quite a few threads here on the forum lately about building customized sumps and fuges. mostly taking a standard glass tank, and adding baffles. like tom noted, a lot depends on the space you have to put the sump/fuge, either under the tank in the stand, or to the side. and how much stuff you intend to put into it. it seems the safest and easiest way to add baffle plates is with 1/4 inch plexi. easy to cut with a table saw, and like glass can be glued in place with plain silicone caulking, since its not a real deep water or structural bond. the plexi would be easier to remove also should you want to change it a little. many people reported breaking the glass plates they use when they tried to remove them.

dont know what your schedule is, but if you have a little time to look around for stuff, That Fish Place, up in Lancaster Pa. is having its anual end of summer tent sale Sept. 30 and oct1. the tent sale has lots of returned, used, opened, broken equipment odds and ends from the back room at garage sale prices. they often have a bunch of tanks, in various sizes and condition. that can be modified. lots of us head there to rummage thru the tent for parts and stuff. but it cleans out early saturday morning. although pickins have been getting a little thinner recently since they finished their remodelling.

or new stuff inside. always worth a trip. it's 59 miles and 1 1/2 hours from the rte 13 / rte 40 split. so you can add your time and distance from dover to that.

Well since my tank is not RR I plan on drilling it. If anybody has done this before let me know, I would love to have some knowledge with me. The room availible underneath my stand for the sump is 69"L x 16"W x 22"H. So I was thinking of a 30L but I have been told to do a 55. A skimmer in the sump was the plan unless anybody advises me otherwise. Since I am very new I was hoping you guys can put me on the right path. What are the advantages for putting a refugium in the tank? I know they are a good thing just not sure why?
