I've had my nano going for few months w/o anything in the filtering area would it benefit me ( the tank ) if I added some bio balls or any media seems to be doing ok without it it's got only about 12lbs of live rock and a 3 inch sand bed. Coral is doing wonderful but the glass is filthy everyday I'm cleaning it any suggestions. Besides coral there is a sand sifting star, sailfin, 4 emeralds, 10 red leg 20 blue legs and 8 astrea snails besides the 5-6 inch red reef lobster ( he needs a bigger home soon ).

What size nano,it sounds like it has to much bio-load.You need more live rock, and the sailfin if really small will need a bigger tank real soon.I run nothing in the back of my 24 and 28 except sponge filter that I clean with each water change.

It's a 29g jbj. How long do you figure it be before the sailfin needs a bigger home also. I am guessing I will pull it down and rearrgange it all so that I van get the sailfin and lobster out and place in the 75g. There is nothing in the back compartments except a oceanic protien skimmer and I'm getting nothing out of it especially compared to the other skimmer on the bigger tank. I was wondering about bio-balls in there like the tank I seen at petsmart. I bought this tank used from another lady that is in the reef club I was just gonna make it a coral tank but my little one wanted some fish and liked the sailfin. Well it sounds to me like I also need more live rock atleast double

If you have the 75 ready I would go ahead and move the tang and lobster,A pair of hi fin gobies and pistol shrimp would be great for a 29,and a pair of clowns.

Yea the 75 been set up for awhile it has a coral cat. Regal blue hippo, two Bali blue chromis, mated pair of true percula clowns, and assorted coral

Begining to agree with Bruce the smaller the more difficult to maintain I may just sell it and transfer to the 75g any ideas

I think I may have the nano gone guy is wanting to trade some nice coral pieces Thanks for the help now concentrate on the 75 gallon
