Newbie question

I saw an acropora for sale at lfs in san diego. It has purple color tips w some white but bare. Rest of coral brown. Lfs said they changed lighting on tank and once coral adjusts then color will come back. Can this really be true?

Yes.

Yes that can definitely be the case, another reason for this could be that it was just placed into the tank and it "browned out" and is starting to color back up.
