Just aquired a black long spine urchin and I was wondering if they are reef safe. I know they claim to be reef-safe on liveaquaria.com but I wanted to get some personal experiences.
had one.......will eat coralline.......and when they poke you......:eek1:
other than that i believe the book"reef secrets" says they are not reefsafe.......i heard nothing bad of them.......my experience is that they are clumsy
generally reef safe, but, as after-school-specially it sounds, always locate urchin before putting your hand into the tank to do things. Not that it will kill you or anything, but it doesn't feel good when an urchin gets it poke on with your arm.
the sting hurt alot.they will get too big too fast.an just as easily as they can poke you they will bulldoze soft coral with they spines.and to make things worse they do eat coralline to the point you will have bare rock lines where it eats.don't use long spine
