Newbie setup - 75g

Hello all. I've been looking to get into the hobby for quite some time. Finally decided to make the jump after some creative persuasion and also getting my wife on board (she will look after it if I'm on the road for work)...needed her to be all in before making the jump. For now we've decided with a FOWLR setup. Coral will be nice but will see how we do with FOWLR for 6-9months

Debated buying everything new with all i've learned from my reading vs used equipment from craigslist. Ending up finding a great deal for a ton of equipment (~$400). Here is what I got:

- 75g tank (not drilled) and stand
- LED lights (3x65w)
- 60lbs of LR (deadrock? it has been sitting out of water for a week)
- 60lbs of sand
- sump and pump 4000/lph
- 3 heaters (2x150w and 1x300w)
- 3 powerheads
- remorac skimmer
- box of bioballs
- tub of instant ocean salt
- water testing kit (crappy kind everyone seems to dislike here but hey its free...i'll use it for a couple of months and get a better kit once i start thinking of adding livestock)

I ended up buying an external overflow, extra flexible tubing and an RO/DI system.

Setup the tank, checked for leaks. Refilled with RO/DI water about 60% of the way and added instant ocean salt (couple of cups at a time over the course of a few hours). Added powerheads, heather and thermometer.

Cleaned powerheads, heaters, pumps in a vinegar / water solution overnight and rinsed thoroughly / let dry. I've also rinsed my sand and cleaned my LR (deadrock)? I will be adding my sand and LR this evening.

So far so good? Am I missing something obvious? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

Do you have a way to test salinity? Hydrometer/Refractometer? Get the salinity to 1.023 for FOWLR.

Add something for ammonia source (Raw shrimp, pure ammonia)

Toss the bioballs.

Yes. I have a refractometer. I'm at 1.023 now.

So no bioballs? I've read a ton on bioballs or no bioballs. I'm skeptical either way because of the amount of contradicting info. If I go without bioballs do I need to do something special with the compartment I would put the bioballs in the sump? Just leave it empty?

Thanks

No bioballs. They are a nitrate factory. You would have to clean them every now and then. Just not worth it. You could put extra rock or some other equipment in that compartment such as a heater. Do you have a pic of the sump? Maybe rest of this setup?
