Hi there!

Just adding 2 corals into my DT yesterday and have few questions:

1) can you help me identify what are these 2 corals real name?
2) yesterday before adding these 2 corasl my KH is 9dkh and Ca is 420ppm (both API test kits), today I rechecked my KH is 8 dkh and CA become 400 ppm. is this correct? will my KH and Ca CONSUMED SO FAST?
3) what food does these corals eat?

I am in the middle of thinking to installed Ca Reactor , can anyone make some comments or refer which brand is better for me? I opted to use Ca Reactor vs Dosing Pump as I learned that in the long run, the maintenance and expense is way much better for ca reactor.

cheers,

the one on the left is a torch. The right is a hammer or frogspawn. Hard to tell by the pic, need to see it closer up. Frogspawn will have multiple "tips" per tentacle and hammer will have one long skinny hammer shaped tip per tentacle. Either way, the care is the same. That does seem like a huge drop in cal and alk for just 2 corals, but if you have lots of coralline growing it is possible.

Agree that they are torch and hammer corals. With very little coral in your tank, you likely won't need a calcium reactor for a long time. Look into adding kalk to your top off water if you are concerned about dropping CA and ALK levels.

Thanks for your nice comments, actually, those 2 corals is just my initial testing of my water and I definitely going to put more corals and even chanllenge SPS if my water quality become good. that is why I am preparing setting up calcium reactor.

by the way, how should I fed these 2 corals? any suggestions.

cheers,

I dose phytoplankton every few days. Corals like the two in question are constantly filtering the water for nutrients. I don't target feed because I have a 14 gallon cube with good circulation. Your tank is much much larger so target feeding might help. Some people use a turkey baster but anything like a transfer pipette will work.
