newly installed 6105 = happy

Today I installed my new 6105 controlled by my 7095 - this will replace a 6000 series which had a 45 degree PVC attached to better control my desired flow direction. First thing was that the 6105 magnets will in no way hold on 1 inch acrylic - if I were smarter I would have confirmed this and would not have relied on Marine depots generic description of the 6105 which clumsily offered that this magnet would work on the .98 inch pane. In the mean time I am being helped to see if the magnet meant for the larger stream 2's will work on my 1 inch pane.

So I had to DYI - this first version is a piece of 1 inch thick acrylic shaped like the image on the right as you look at the back of the aquarium. And the image on the left is looking at the shape from the side where I dadoed out the backside to the depth of the magnet.

Good for me, when I had my tank built to request a 1.25 inch square hole crafted on the top pane bracing on each side of the tank which allowed me to insert the acrylic holder up thru, snuggled by wrapping the soft side Velcro sticky around a couple of times - I had to really work to get it up and thru the hole - which meant that there is no room for movement - I also glued some silicone rubber on the back of the rear magnet to rest against the pane - I have no movement, no rattle.

Then I inserted a 3/8 inch alum. dowel thru the hole I drilled thru the acrylic and found some PVC hose to slide over it so the top bracing will not come into contact with the aluminum.

Some people have mentioned that the 6105's are not perfectly quiet out of the box but they are suppose to break in a bit. I can not hear them unless I put my ear to the tank. I have my 6105 on the 15 volt jumper and even then turned down a bit with my 7095 and I am getting perfect and more flow than the stream it replaced. It has a smaller footprint and I can point it anywhere.

I have 4 6105s, and I have them all installed upside down like you do. This allows them to be placed higher in the tank than the reverse without sucking air from the surface. I did the same with my 6101s before I replaced them with the 6105s.

hmmm, I thought with the wire on the bottom was right side up.

I have a similar problem with the 6105 magnets. I have 1/2" glass and a 1/4" of black plexiglass on the back my tank and the stock magnets don't really handle it too well. Very weak bind for magnets rated to 3/4" glass.

Nice job on the DYI jnb. Wish I could follow suit, but I have a EB which is tempered so no go. So the other half of the magnet is good for constant submersion? Nice to know.

I was curious if the 6205 magnets would work with 6105 also. Is Roger checking on that for you? I really hope they do as I need the extra beef to mount a pair of these 6105's to the back of my tank.

apprently the 62's magnets do work with the 6105 see my thread on that
