That was fun. What would you guys like to do next, a protein skimmer or custom water tight acrylic (AKA plexi-glass) boxes: sumps, surge tanks, surface skimmers, overflows, etc.

Is there anyone else who who wants a MARS DIY calcium reactor?

=====Edit=====
I've made a little more room in my garage. We can fit 5-7 builders now.

Also, as with most things, this is all about having the right tools. Most of these DIYs require a table saw and drill press. A chop saw and belt sander don't hurt either.

That last one was so much fun & educational at the same time - I would like to be involved in anything, even if I don't think I could use it on my tank! Lots of great ideas were flying around in your garage. But I don't want to be selfish & take up a spot that someone else wants . . .

I am most interested in a surge tank.

Thank you again for hosting the session. I can only imagine how much work you had to put into it. You seemed a little drained toward the end - I am surprised & pleased that you can even think about doing another one already!

Thanks Sherie

Yes, the DIY sessions drain me but they are very satisfying. I spent about six hours preparing. You got a feel for how fast things go when you have the right tools.

Next time we start with lunch and take at least one break.

Hi Brian, sounds like you guys had a great time. I would really love a DYI Calcium reactor but was busy this weekend. If you do it again I'm in. BTW if you have extra parts I will buy them and try the task on my own if possable.

Thanks John

I have been wanting to build a in tank hang on fuge for the tank. Nothing too big but just want a place to start a pod safe harbor. already have a design in mind but no exp with acrylic .

A 2 tier design with the upper area able to place frags on.

I think I'm going to ask for orders at the next meeting then get the DIYers together to fill them.

Avalanche Wolf

We can do that.

I know it has been done before, but I'm in need of a good protein skimmer and would be up for DIY job if anyone else is.

About how much does a good protien skimmer cost to make ?

My CA skimmer is junk I am finding out but cant complain as I got it new for 50 bucks of Clist. Tired of it skimming one day and doing nothing the next.

skimmer for 100 G on the list before the HO Fuge.

I would like to be a helper if you do an acrylic project. I do not have any needs at this time, but I want to learn more before I do.

That's 4 for plexi-glass and 4 for protien skimmers. You guys aren't making this easy:)

Yes, we do make a skimmer. It costs around $150 to make. It can hand on, sit in the sump or sit in the stand. It services 50 to 150 gal tanks with heavy bio-loads. The two pump model ($200) doesn't hang on but it services 150 to 300 gal tanks with heavy bio-loads.

I would love to join the plexiglass DIY session and would also like to watch the skimmer session if there is room. if there is room :). I want to build a cube for nemo's...Pretty original huh :D
Anywyas, LMK if there is room.

Thanks,
Paul

I'm in for the two pump model skimmer if that gets picked.

And they are tied again :)

Almost mixed you up with RasBobre. He aleady has one of these. Sorry if I ever did that before.

In any case, we can make it work with almost any pump (not power head). I've used Sedras, Mag7s and Mag9s for the sumersible model. I've used GenX MAK4s for the external only model.

My capacity estimates are conservative. Instead of buying two pumps right off. Build the two pump model. Install one MAG 9 on it and plug the taps for the 2nd pump. If you really need more capacity then add a 2nd Mag 9.

Hey Brian, I could volunteer to be a helper on the skimmer DIY. I do need to build a new skimmer cup, I accidently dropped it on the garage floor.
