WHAT? SPEAK INTO THE HORN PLEASE!! :D

But in all seriousness, we all dont know ;) Every place sells them at different prices, to the extreme. One store will charge around 40 a head, while another will sell a colony for 75-80. JoJos had some fair prices when I was there last, but would still be nice to know a general figure.

On a side note, if he gave you a good deal...How do you know? You would have to know how much they normally go for to base a comparison of a good deal or not. So.....? How much do they normally go for?? :D

NICE TRY JUSTIN BUT I CANT SAY IT. LIKE YOU SAY JO'JO ALWAY GIVE FAIR PRICE ASK MIKE OR JEFF. AT FIRST THEY DON'T WANT TO SALE IT BUT MIKE WAS DRUNK AND I BUY LOT OF STUFF FROM THEM BEFOR TOO....ALOT HAVE TO DO WITH MIKE BEING DRUNK....LOL

Nice acans, Those australian acans don't go cheap. I believe it cost the retail stores alot to import them, i would guess usually 3 to 4 times the typical acans you find in our local shop today. I think if you look at the prices of online shops like alantisaquarium, you kinda get the idea of how much he paid for those colonies.

If you guys really want to know, you have a better chance if you just pm him, skydragon says he's not at liberty to say. That's part of the deal he made. Although I have to say, that insinuating that we have try to catch Mike when he's drunk is just as bad as revealing the price. You know he reads these boards too.

I have to admit one of the things that has frustrated me in the past with JoJo's is that I'll want to buy something, but they won't sell it to me, because they've been saving it for the display. Jeff just told me the other day that they wouldn't be getting in much until they moved all that stuff into the display too, so you really lucked out.

But Mike is definitely the guy to talk to if you really want to get something. I would try to catch him whenever I go, and he doesn't work on wednesdays and thursdays.

Aussie acans are one of those things that you just know are going to flood the market. You think you got a good deal, but who knows? Mike says he's got more on the way. If JoJo's can get them in, I'm sure all the other shops can get them too. Exotic will definitely have some, but their prices will probably be higher. Time to make another LFS run.

Those are some nice pieces you snagged skydragon. Will you be fragging anytime soon?

Interesting point, Xia. All that talk about wholesalers mixing Indo and Aussie together puts a dark cloud over the whole thing:( I'd imagine Japanese acans would still hold their value long-term, but would it even matter considering how many acans are out there right now.

Nevertheless, gorgeous pieces, skydragon!:)

What's Mike's favorite drink?!? He's a super cool guy that always has a second to chat w/ you. He's come through for me with some stuff I requested. I'm sure they'll get more of the Aussies. Anyone looking for any Scolys should check them out....they had some really nice ones there last night.

First off, who said these were australian acanthastrea? Id bet money those came from the indo pacific. Theyve been migrating in different spots lately getting some really nice fluffy pieces, I have one in fact myself. If anything, the bright green and purple one looks like its Japanese, not aussie.

Secondly, why in God's green earth would we compare shop anything to Atlantisaquarium??? Are you mad??? They are definately top 10 of the most overmarked corals on the net.

Guys, gals, dont buy into the acan hype, because that is exactly what it is. If you are diligent, you can find beautifull lords like these at VERY AFFORDABLE prices, take it from me. One of the tightest guys in the club ;)

Take these gorgeous fatty reds of mine for example,

Ready to crap yourself? I paid 9.99 for the whole thing; online! No drunken deals behind closed doors, or anything ambiguous for that matter, and was available to anyone here that saw it. The purple/burgendy colony in front of it? $40, this teal and red in $10 per head, at the time it was $50.

Honestly guys prices dont mean squat to me. As every price seems to miraculously change depending on whos setting it.

The ones you posted though, look like your regular average looking indo acans. You'll never find a great looking aussie acan for those prices.

dont know what your seeing but that first red one I posted looks just like the big one at the top of his first pic.

And again, who said anything about aussie acans? The only and I emphasize only one that he posted that doesnt look like a typical indo acan is the limey green/purple one off to the right.

Never find great looking aussie acans for those prices??? Um, yes, yes you can. Fraggle reef had some nice aussie acan frags a while back for like 20 bucks!! Ya, the same ones that go for 50-100 per head elsewhere. But now that were speaking of aussie acans, tripped out when I saw this:
http://www.cherrycorals.com/product.php?productid=290&cat=15&page=1
looks almost identical to my regular average looking lavender/burgendy indo acan, dont it? :D

Acans are overpriced right now period. They can be very colorful and in demand obviously. They are however, a very common coral in nature (and used to be considered a "junk" coral) and can grow very rapidly if fed and properly cared for. The more they get into people's tanks and are grown out the more reasonable the prices will become.

IMHO,

James
