Niger trigger in qt has redish brown dots all over him?

It looks like it would be ICH, but the spots/dots are redish brown instead of white. He is covered with them from head to tail. Does anybody know what this is? I can't get a pic, because he's behind the rocks. I started the fist copper tx (16 drops) to 10.5/g. The fish are in a 10 gallon qt.

Could be Velvet, although those dots are typically more gold colored. But "covered with them from head to tail" sure sounds like Velvet to me. And hiding behind a rock, out of the light, is another symptom of Velvet.

Are the dots same size as Ich? Or something larger?

If this is Velvet, you need to get the copper up ASAP. A f/w dip and/or formalin bath might provide some temp relief.

Velvet will look like a "sheen" rather than discrete "dots" but light avoidance and reclusiveness are definitely behavioral characteristics of velvet infestation. Google black ich and see if that fits what you are seeing.

there definitely not sheen. he's dotted from head to tail like heavy ICH infestation.

ill have to google black ich.

ill see if i can find a picture of what he has.

Wow great info!

Well I can't see the dots like yesterday. He was covered in them yesterday. The copper must be working.

Here's a pic.

Thoughts??

Kind of hard to tell what's on him and what's on the glass. But what I see doesn't look anything like Turbellarians (Black Ich).

went home just a minute ago from work and looked at him with flashlight and he's got the dots all over him again, but not quite as many. this time, they are more white like ICH. They are definetely raised and on top of the skin. last night they weren't there. Also, one of my clowns is broke out in ich now. must be ich, but im still not sure it's not velvet with the redish brown dots. i wish i would have had my phone on me so i could have taken a picture. ill try to get a good one in the morning. hopefully the dots are still on him. looked just like specs of sand or ICH.

Again, while ich comes and goes, velvet would basically take out your tank in this time frame.

ok...Thanks!

update...The trigger died, but everybody else has survived and doing well except my v puffer. he hasnt started to eat yet, but is cruzing the tank and his spots are gone.
