night viewing?

hi - other than a regular flashlight, any tips on night viewing? i really have never seen the nocturnal activity in my tank and know there's lots going on! When I try the flashlight, it seems to scare things away. Sorry if this is a dumb question! Thanks

Yeah -- you need to invest in lunar lights --mine are built into the orbit pc fixture once you let your eyes adjust you can see into the tank perfectly

You can buy single moonlights and mount them in your canopy "if you have one" they also have moonlights you can mount on the side of your tank like a flashlight sorta speak...

I do not have a "fancy" setup as I am still new to marine tanks. I bought some of cehap decorative/amber bulbs at the local grocery store and put them in the the reccess light fixtures above my tank.

I works surprisingly well for me. Not bright enough to disturb the fish, but throws nice shadows onto the tank bottom...and allows me to very easily see the snails, crabs, etc moving around the tank.

Buy a flashlight with red lens. That will help. I know most of my critters are pretty much used to a night flashlight and don't all go hiding every time you shine it in the tank.

Debi - thanks - last dumb question: where can I find a flashlight with a red lens? not in any usual hardware store I presume? thanks

Walmart or any place like that. I have a Brinkmann Rebel, it came with changable lens that just snap over the regular one.
