Nightsea?

breutus

Don't ask me, I'm wrong.
Does night sea use a filter that you put on the camera?

if there is a filter is one you can just buy and combine with (see next question :D )

Can one just buy a UV LED flashlight and get similar results? like ones used to see stains?

yeah, its a filter, and you can buy just the filter. As far as the flashlight goes, im not sure if it would work or not.

Is there any way you/someone could elaborate more on the filter? what type of filter, what is it's purpose?

I have very strong UV lights available to me and I guess I could have just tried a few shots to see what they picked up, but I had a feeling I was gonna need some type of filter.

For the Nightsea stuff, you need two filters. One goes over your flash to change the light from the flash to the correct wavelength to excite the fluorescence in whatever you're shooting. The other filter goes over your lens to filter out the light from your flash so that your camera only records the wavelengths coming from your subject.

Good luck!

I got a filter lens from ebay for really cheap.

I am just looking for what they call the "Exciter" the filter that goes on your flash or the filtered light source (Flashlight).

I think the kit that they use on CSI for detecting seamen, which seems to be everywhere on that show is the exact same thing we are looking for.

I was thinking about using mutiple sources of (excited)light to try and get some cool effects.

LOL there not JUST used for semen lol the used all over for everything from pet stains to fraudulent dollar bills, my dad uses them for his business in chimneys, they use them for something there and there really powerful, and I can shut the flash off if in manual...

I'll have to borrow one next week and see if I get any results

I love my night sea gear. Not sure if it is UV or not, but would be interested in hearing your reports when you test.

will keep you updated for sure my dad said he thinks he can get me the light for a couple of weeks starting Wednesday. I als ohave been researching filters and have come up with a couple of them I am gonna try with it. I'll report everything once I get them light:)

I was at O'rieleys auto parts store and they had a kit for detecting radiator leeks with a uv flash light and filtering glasses.

I wonder if that would work for just viewing ?
I doubt the little flashlight would have enough power to excite the coral to make a major vibrant display.
