I am previewing a d50 and can't for the life of me figure out how to set the white balance so that my shots don't all come out so blue.

Any tips on how to solve my dilemna?

I take it the auto wb setting didn't work for you? If not you have a couple options- one is to do a manual wb. At the top of the forum in a sticky thread about white balancing there are some tips and tricks- read that thread and the part of your manual about how to set the wb manually. With a little tinkering you should be able to get very accurate colors with a manual wb.
The other option is to shoot in RAW [nef] mode and adjust the wb on your computer when you convert the raw file to a tiff or jpeg. RAW conversion software allows you to set the wb after the picture is taken. It adds a few steps to the whole process but it's worth it if you think you might want to make prints, or if you're having trouble getting accurate colors in the first place.
I can't recall if the D50 allows you to set the wb via color temp- if it does try setting it at the highest value (probably 10000K) and see how those pics look.

Click the menu button then go to the camera icon then look for the white balance menu. Once you are there scroll to the bottom and click preset WB and then measure. Once you do that exit out of all the menus then press the button that has WB above it on the left of the camera then press the shutter release button and if it says Gd in the bottom of the view finder or good on top then you are good to go. The D-50 doesn't have the option to set light temperature (Kelvin).

Also, as Greg mentioned there are some good tips in the thread and I use the coffee filter when measuring WB and it seems to come out pretty accurate.

If you're lighting is over 10K you can forget white balance settings.

You can use 'em to get close if you want, you can start with florescent -3, but that's about as far as you can go.

Shoot in raw and pull it out in post processing, that would be the preferred method. There are other methods to play with, like gregr said ... check the stickies ...
