Nikon D-50 -vs- D-70

So I know that the D-50 is supposed to take the same quality of picture as the D-70 (same CCD, just more consumer than professional options), but want to know from anyone who's had both or at least seriously tested both to see if the price-cut is wrth the loss of production quality/options.

Thanks,

DM

So, I'm curious, did you pick a camera yet? I personally have the D70 model and I love it. It has features over the D50 that I would be hard pressed to live without and is sophisticated enough to grow with you for years to come. Curious to see what you get and some pics posted from it too!

I got distracted looking for a 'cycle, but once I lose this last bid I'll go back and probably get the D70 with a nice general lens and a macro. :D

I don't have a macro for it just yet, I want the Nikon 105mm VR, but it's kinda pricey, however with a little know-how and a lot of practice you can do fairly well with the kit lens.

IT's actually very simple. D70 has commander mode, an essential item for wireless flash photography, which is something many photographers use for aquatic photography, because it simulates in a burst natural sunlight, coming from top down. D50 needs to use a flash on the shoe to trigger another flash.

I actually haven't begun to play with remote strobes on the tank yet. Nikons creative flash system rocks but I haven't applied it here yet, still getting my feet wet, so to speak.

Thanks for the link! Whe I get to the point where I will be buying one, that will come in handy. I am leaning more towards the D70 because of the additional features, even if I won't know how to use tem. :D

I would agree, trust me, it's NOT like you won't ever use them. For me the biggest single feature is dual knurled dials for the f-stop and shutter speed adjustments. When shooting in such complicated lighting nightmares as our fish tanks manual mode comes into play in a big way, and being able to compensate using two fingers that happen to be located right where the adjustments dials are at that very moment is a BIG plus. The "S" model offeres additional features over the D70.
