Nikon D5000 Macro

I am looking for a relatively inexpensive macro for my D5000.

I am looking for something along the lines of the sigma 105mm F2.8 or tamron 90mm F2.8.

I really do not care if the A/F works or not, but will the D5000 function with a lens that does not have the A/F motor built in? I tried a 15 year old Nikon lens from a old film SLR and an error message came up. Wondering if that same thing will happen with all non AF lenses.

So can I buy one of the above lenses with a Nikon mount that does not support AF (if such a lens exists) to save some $$?

Most of my pictures are taken with three Nikkor AI-S lenses. I am using a D90. My micro is a Nikkor-micro 55mm f2.8 AI-S on full manual. My other lenses are a 28mm f2.8 AI-S and a 50mm f1.8 AI-S. I just use extensions to turn them into a macro lens.

All that happens is that you don't have your metering ability or auto focus. Same as with mine.

Hopefully this isn't monster sized for you. I took this with my 55mm and my D90.

The lens aperture setting ring should be set at the highest number. It may also have a lock to keep it there. The aperture can be set in the camera.

Darren, nice pic, though a little bit large!!!!

I reduced it and re-uploaded the thing and it is still large... not sure why tho.. will delete and re-ftp

here it is.. much better.

Thanks Nookie!
