I just got my new camera today, I took some pics...all excited to see how these extra pixels are going to treat me.....

My nikoneditor cant open them. Does the "editor has to close........sorry for the inconvenience" thing.

They appear to be the same .nef files i would get from my d100....but soemthing is different.....

I really at this point dont feel I need anything more than nikon editor can provide me......wondering if there is a patch or something that can get me moving. Or if I have to install the "picture project" disk that came with the camera.

Im really just hoping I can update...for the moment anyway.

I did a quick google and couldnt really find any answers I was looking for.....

thanks in advance

picture project wont run on my computer :(

I can get it to show the pics......but it just freezes when I hit "edit"...........I imagine figuring it out wouldnt be too bad......but I cant even get that far before it locks up

I dont get it...the .nef files are still running the same size (10 MB give or take). and Nikon View proocessed the same size pics from the d100 broadband speed. I had to unintall nikon view for the PP to work

I really hope there is a patch or update for nikon view that will work for me.............

i finally managed to get the silly PP program to at least convert one of the raw files to a jpeg for me.......

nothing special...but it is the first pic with my new camera......

I got a twenty dollar bill immediately paypaled to whoever can tell me how to get my old nikon view program to open these files. lol

I dont need 20 bucks but did you completly remove the old software before installing the new one...and head to the nikon site to see if a patch is needed

Thank you for the reply Anthony.

I did completely uninstall everything....back and forth a couple times, as well as a system restore back to before I touched anything to make sure I got it right the first time. Result was the same.

I cant find anything at the nikon site that seems to address this issue, although I did find mention of similar issues on several google searches that led to photography forums, but couldnt find a conclusive answer that wasnt over my head, or didnt require buying new seperate programs.

If anyone knows how or if it is even possible to get teh old nikon view software to open and edit these files...I would appreciate it. Otherwise I am going to have to step out of my comfort zone, buy a new faster computer and get a basic photoshop lesson.

Somebody did just tell me to go to microsoft, as there may be a patch there...so thats where I am heading.....

Again...thanks for the reply :)

Call Nikon.

theres a novel idea

Thanks :)

Called Nikon........didnt know they had 24 hr customer service. Should have called them last night and saved some waasted effort. Super helpful...inless than 30 seconds of humon contact found out my Nikon View software will NEVER be able to process these files as it is discontinued and no patchesor updates ever were created that could.

SO.......new question.

Anybody use Gimp2?? I downloaded it and it can open the files no prob. Should I go to the effort of even learning this software or should I just buck up, go buy a new computer that can handle photoshop fast enough, buy photoshop and go get a photoshop lesson??
