chad - you definitely have outdone yourself yet again on this one. It's just plain brilliant.

aural,
Thanks, tha's nice of you to say! This one is baisically just an upsized version of my last tank but it made a big differnce having more room for aquascaping. Plus, I think that the 70w halide looks better over the 7.5gal than it did over the 2gal. It doesn't look natural to me for the bottom of the tank to be lit up like high noon... there needs to be some gradient, helps create mood ;). Plue, the shimmer effect looks better now that it isn't too bright.

Chad, you and your cube continue to amaze me. The first one, full tank, is now my desktop wallpaper. The full tank shot I dream of, though, would be isolated from your desk top and the office background, by some kind of black background, perhaps posterboard.

I can dream, can't I?

Chris,
Wow! I'm glad to hear that you like it so much.
I would love have a picture with a black background like you described... Like having the tank set up in the middle of a dark warehouse so all you can see is the tank and not the floor or any walls...

Hmmm. It just occurred to me that you could (dramatic pause) turn the lights out in the office before you take the picture! Funny that never occurred to me until just now. It would still leave the pool of light around the desk, but the office background would, perhaps, fade out significantly.

Haha, I actually did try that once... unfortunately, the office is wired in such a way that when I turn the lights off, only half of them go off. The rest are on 24/7. I would have to physically remove 10 or 20 fluorescent bulbs to achive the effect. And my boss already thinks tank maitenance is the only thing I do at work...

In your 3rd picture down is that frag of acro from ur biger colony or just a different kind?

The frag in the third pic is just from the same colony as the big one. I do have a green acro as well that you can see in the first pic. It is between the two purple acros and right next to the candycane...
Cheers,

i definantly have to say that this tank compared to ur old one in aquascaping looks ten times better prob because of it being less comjested and you having more water space in the new one

well im a lazy guy so im to lazy the read the whole thread but my question is is how far apart are ur bulkheads and are u using 3/4 in? also what what series is ur eheim and what did u fill it with?

I don't quite remember how far apart the bulkheads are (I think 3") but yes, they are 3/4" bulkheads. As far as the eheim, I am using the 2128 but have disabled the built in heater because it was 200w and way to powerful for a small tank like this. I instead put a 50w hydor inside the cannister.

- Chad

Yup, the bottom basket of my cannister filter is LR rubble and the middle basket is full of chaetomorpha (The top is taken up by my heater and a bag of carbon).

- Chad

I work at an lfs and i picked up 2 blue tangs litterally smaller than a dime and that reminded me of ur tank and i thought they would look really neat in there until of course the grew to big and ur mantis would probably get them before that happens... lol

plus was it hard to do ur mod on ur light?

You bet,
This photo is probbly the best one I have of the modded cannister filter:

46130filtermod.jpg

You can see how I drilled the top of the filter to string the lights and 50w heater through. After I sealed the holes wilth silicone, I attatched the plugs back onto the wires and it was ready to go.
Right now I only run one bulb at a time in the submersible chaeto lights. One 5w halogen bulb is more than enough light to grow chaeto and I am trying to conserve bulbs by not running them both at the same time - a bulb only lasts me about 3 or so months before burning out.

Cheers,

- Chad
