Nipping Angel

I recently added a beautiful little Flavissima x vroliki hybrid to my SPS reef. Great personality, eats like a pig and everything. Wouldn't you know it nips at my SPS occasionally. It doesn't exactly pester them but it does cause them to retract there polyps for a few minutes. I'm going to try and leave it in my tank for a while and see how it does. Does anyone else have nipping fish in their reefs?

I have an Eibli Angelfish I have had for a few years, he will nip at corals from time to time, but never the same coral enough to bother it's growth. Although I have trouble keeping Acans, and it could be due to the Eibli nipping at the exposed feeder tentacles.

I also have lots of corals, if there was just a single coral or two the fish may be more destructive.

But from what I read, all Angelfish are different, and they can change habits in mid-life.

I have a flame angel that will occasionally nip, but like socalmiket, it spreads the nipping around, and I have a lot of pieces, many of which are decent sized, so no harm no foul. It's pretty enough that I'm willing to put up with it :)

Just wondering... what do those of you that have coral nipping angels feed? (i.e., Formula 1 pellets/flakes, Formula 2 pellets/flakes, Frozen Mysis/Brine, Nori sheets???)

I have a theory that I'm trying to prove/disprove...

Once a day, I feed a mix of Formula 1 flakes, Formula 2 flakes, frozen mysis, frozen cyclop-eez and some pellets I can't recall ATM. Tangs get nori, but I've never seen the angel take any.

I currently have a pair of flameback angels and just recently purchased a potter angel. Before I put them in I used to have great polyp extension all day and now I only have extension during the night. I haven't seen any damage to the corals and growth is still great. I feed three times a day first two feedings are mix of frozen foods and last feeding is NLS pellets.

I feed two times per day. The first feeding consists of Formula 2 pellets and the second is either frozen Mysis or a home made mix of clam, shrimp, scallops, artemia nauplii, and nori.

Angels are gonna nip... No way around it. feeding often is the best bet, but that is just what happens. It is well worth the trade in my opinion!

Thanks, I forgot about that thread.

My stocking list consists of a Coral Beauty, flavissima x vroliki hybrid, Regal Angel, and a trio of PJ Cardinals. So far the hybrid is the only one I have witnessed "nipping". The coral Beauty and Regal just graze live rock all day.
