Nitrates and Clams

I have read, both on the web and in books, that clams utilize some nitrates as food.

Question is, how much? In other words, has anyone ever examined their nitrate levels before and after adding clams?

I have, when i used to keep LPS only had nitrate levels that were in the mid 30s and after adding clams they brought it down to 5. They do better in nitrate provided system.

I keep clams in my SPS tanks that have no measurable nitrates and they grow like crazy. Apparently given enough light and calcium nitrates are only a small part of the formula for a clam's health.

My nitrates run around 30sih ppm with 1 clam...best I can do atm
