I have a tank that has all my snails dying. I think my wife and kids have overfed the fish. I had to move my pink tip haitain because he was shriveled for a few days. I have done two 25% water changes, one yesterday and one 3 days ago. Now I am loaded with datoms on the rock and sand. What can I do to save my tank and rock?

The nitrate won't harm the snails, almost certainly. What is the level in ppm?

I would do a couple more 25% water changes, and start looking at the water parameters. If you could post them, that might help. Also, what fish do you have in the tank?

I agree with Bertoni...and plan ahead so that your reef is child... and wife-safe.

If you're concerned about the diatoms, even though eventually the problem will pass, set up a Phosban (or Kent) Reactor and fill it with Rowaphos....that'll deplete the silicates on which the diatoms thrive.
